In a forum inundated with GTA5, I just installed Far Cry 2...

johnt

...and it totally sucks  :(

Way too many people said they liked it better than Far Cry 3. Hell no! FC3 was bad ass!

The worst part of FC3 is fricking uPlay. Crashed every 45 to 60 minutes, which were decent bathroom and snack breaks at least.

The worst part of FC2 is EVERYTHING. The guns are weak. The water reflections are shockingly disappointing compared to what the original FC brought to gaming. So many glitches that I can't even understand my next goal.

I know... I'm late to the scene. I just got back into gaming like last November. The last game I was played was F.E.A.R. back from the mid 2000's... except a couple Need for Speed games along the years.

FC3 is by far the best. Then FC4, then FC1, then FC2 (not sure of any other far cry games)

I totally agree with you, except I haven't really played through FC4 yet. I've seen some let's plays on youtube and it looks promising from the first hour. But I'll be getting FC4 soonish. After seeing the first three FC games under $10, I can't bring myself to pay $30-$60 for FC4.

I actually really like Far Cry 2, but to each his own. I liked it because it was more realistic compared to FC3 and FC4. The poor AI and repetitive missions were the only things that really bugged me.

Did you play it on PC? It's so buggy. People glitch and everything is jumpy.

I "tried" FC4 after playing FC3. I don't know what it is, but 4 is missing something.

From the Let's Play videos, it seems like FC4 is actually FC3.5. It didn't seem like they added anything new in the actual game play. I guess being able to control a tiger is considered new?

No. Its totally fine when I played it on my old PC.

When I tried it with my current system, there were times when the NPCs would move around like crazy. Doesn't happen all the time though.

I wonder if it's caused by Crossfire setup. I should disable and try playing again.

If you didn't already it's worth creating an account at GOG. Unless you prefer to keep everything within Steam, GOG is a nice alternative that can coexist alongside quite happily. I like that they guarantee the older games they sell will work on WIn 7/8

Is GOG another client similar to Steam? Or are they standalone applications like some software from Amazon?

GOG is its' own thing - the core value is that everything is and always will be DRM free, so you have a choice. Once you buy a game and it's in your library you have the option to either download the installers and extras directly from your browser, using whatever download manager you prefer. You can also use GOGs own download manager for Windows or Mac, this isn't a client, it's just a download tool with some notifications. An unofficial Linux version (which is great) is also available: lgogdownloader

A full blown client called Galaxy with patching and achievements is in development, right now it's at the alpha or beta phase. GOG guarantee it will remain 100% optional and you will be able to use only the features you want and you will still be able to use the direct access standalone installers if you prefer. I don't know when Galaxy will launch but it wouldn't surprise me if it happens alongside Witcher 3.

Awesome! That's fantastic. I don't mind another DRM client (like Galaxy) if it is stable and the parent website has good sales. I have no loyalty to Steam, but clearly they've done it right, so it's a great benchmark. I wish I could say the same about uPlay. Unfortunately Ubisoft seems to make all the games I want to play

another DRM client (like Galaxy)

Pedant hat on for a moment: client ≠ DRM

The two things have become synonymous becuase games in Steam almost always use DRM and require the client to run.

Galaxy won't contain DRM, you can use the Galaxy client to patch and install, but you will never need it to launch the game or be logged in anywhere. Launching the game from Galaxy may be possible, but it will be optional.

The thing Far Cry 4 is missing is a compelling main character and story. I don't feel compelled to be in the world of Far Cry 4. It's more like, well I'm here, I might as well help these people out. But there is no reason to do so. With Far Cry 3, you got stuck and your goal was to get out. Pagin Min isn't even a real villain. I mean, he can be mean, but he's not terrible. So the series doesn't innovate in anyway. It does what Far Cry 3 but with little purpose. Just my thoughts.

I see. I think I used DRM wrong. I think I meant Galaxy sounds like a management tool "similar" to a DRM like Steam.

Really? That's so disappointing because the story in FC3 was extremely compelling. I didn't think it would be when I first started playing. There were a lot of WTF moments... random sex scenes, fighting a monster sized devil lookalike, and just randomly getting bit by snakes.
