Bios Update for my Build

Go to solution Solved by brob,

what should  i be looking for when i get the box?

I suggest you contact Asus support, http://www.service.asus.com/. Choose the live chat option or send them an email and ask them about the process of installing a Haswell Refresh cpu in the Maximus VI Hero motherboard. They will be able to provide specific instructions.

I want to keep this build but the bios update is concerning me..

Do you just go into pc options and press bios update or somthing is it hard??!?

Or what cpus work well with my motherboard that would work just as well as the intel i5 3.5?

The motherboard has the Asus USB BIOS Flashback feature that allows the BIOS to be updated without the cpu or memory installed.

Download the appropriate BIOS file on another machine. Put it in the root of a USB stick and give it the appropriate name. Put the stick in the designated USB port and press the BIOS Flashback button. It is that simple. http://www.asus.com/microsite/2014/MB/New_4th_gen_Intel_processor_compatibility/

The cpu should be fine in that motherboard.

Most Motherboards these days come with the latest bios, so don't worry. Chances are the motherboard will support the CPU out of the box. It's a high end motherboard too, so it probably already has the latest bios that supports that CPU.

My Old Rig: Phenom II X4 965 4.0 ghz, Asus Motherboard, 4 GB DDR3-1333, Antec Case and PSU, no video card atm

My New Rig: i5-4590, MSI Motherboard, 8 GB DDR3-1600, Corsair Case, XFX PSU, HD 7950

As @tsm suggested, it is likely your motherboard will ship with an appropriate BIOS. You will need to check the box label when you get it to determine if there is a need to update the BIOS.

Section 2.2 of the User Manual describes the process. BIOS versions are available from the Asus web page for the motherboard. Support tab under Drivers & Download.
