FPS drops serious help. I literally need to this end this now.

dima_

I'm noticing FPS drops that are absolutely game-breaking in Battlefield 4, Grand Theft Auto V, and CS:GO. They persist on a 970, and I'm testing Battlefield 4 on a 770 and it's still happening. I've got GPU-Z and RealTemp open. I've been sure that - for some reason - it was due to thermal throttling on either my CPU or GPU. My CPU stays around 60C under load and my GPU (the 770 right now and presumably my other cards...) stays around 70C. Do these temps sound dangerous? I sure don't think so. The GPU load is around 70% now, can jump up and stay around 90%-100% when gaming in any of the given games. This is what surprises me - CS:GO. My friend attributed these fps drops to a recent CS:GO patch, and it's true, they hadn't happened on a 970 I used to play it on all the time and it started happening on it. I'm at a complete loss, I don't know what's causing this or why. My bad performance in BF4 and GTA V was attributed by someone to my "shitty clock speed" on my CPU, but since it happens in CS:GO, I don't know if that's the case. They're happening now and weren't before, all on this same CPU. I was told to try and reset my BIOS which I might try tomorrow. I understand I'll have to set date, time, load order, etc, but is it effecting the OS as a whole? Like will I have to install all my stuff again, etc etc? Fan speed on my Windforce 770 is always at about 53%-70%. Memory used in BF4 right now is 1700mb/2gb. It should be noted BF4 ran fine on my MSI 970 initially, before these drops started happening on it too. I'm not sure what to think and I wish I could provide more information, so if this sounds like a characteristic to some common, easily fixable problem (hopefully) or if it can point me in the right direction (realistically), I'd be so appreciative.

You can see my CPU in my siggy, it's a 4670k @ 3.4GHz. Haven't OC'd. Haven't cloned anything from HDD to SSD, just installed BF4 and Hardline on it.

What do you mean with 'shitty fps'? can we get some numbers?

Try running a benchmark that can tell us more about the score you are getting, maybe that way we can see if the games or the drivers are to blame.

Any issues with temp?  What are RealTemp readings and MSI Afterburner logs of your GPU?

Since you've already tried another card; Partition a hard drive or SSD into Two partitions, and name the new one.
Then install a fresh copy of windows on the new partition, install all drivers, and test again.
I never notice any dips in CSGO after the patch on my 980; IDK What they are talking about.

On BF4 in particular, on both 970 and 770 I've used it on, I get periods of 60fps for maybe 20 seconds interrupted by 10 second intervals of like 10-15fps. I can barely aim. Good FPS obviously on other games too, same situation. It's consistent. It doesn't start happening after a certain amount of time, which rules out thermal throttling. The GTA V game-ready driver, 350.12 WHQL, was causing horrible FPS drops. 347.88 WHQL was the driver before it, I did a clean install of it and it helped for about a day and the FPS drops started again.

I really don't want to do a fresh install and lose everything. My internet is shit as it is and it literally takes me 3 days to install GTA V alone.

No odd temps. RealTemp says my CPU sits at 60C when under load, and my GPU is 60-70C.

New partition on a hard drive; You won't lose anything.  Just do it for testing.  Just test with CSGO for now; as it seems to happen with any game and CSGO is pretty small.

You don't have to reinstall any game especially if it's on Steam.  There's a game backup feature in Settings.

That's pretty bad.

Download the free version of 3DMark and run the Fire Strike benchmark. That will give you a score that you can compare with the list of people running the same specs as you. It's not a real game scenario, but it will tell you what your hardware is capable of and measure it. Something as silly as GeForce Experience glitching out and messing with your settings can be the problem, so running the benchmark you can tell if it's that or a hardware issue.

During the bench, close every single other application that is using resources, also check task manager to see if there isn't any weird crap in the background as well.

You can't determine hardware faults without a clean install of windows; Even then there is a small chance that it's still windows being dumb.

The only thing on this SSD is Battlefield 4. I'm going to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on to it. Not just make a separate partition and test it, I'm just gonna do this because I should anyway. Hopefully, the problems won't persist. I'll report back later.
