GTA V random Lag

Hey guys, I'm having random lag spikes when playing with friends .  when my buddy gets in my car its really bad and when im alone its bad.

I updated my drivers and all that,  im running an Asus Gtx 660,  8GB ram and an I5-4670k running at stock.

all the settings are on normal  AA and tessellation is off.  I had task manager running and it says im using 80% ram, 40-65% CPU  but ethernet is saying im sending 400-600 kbps  and receiving 80-100 kbps and i have fibre op (74.81 down and 9.8 up)  so that shouldnt be the issue.

Im just not sure what i can do, ive looked other places and nothing is working.

Thanks for all the help

yea

i have the same issue

i have a gtx 760 oc 4gb, i7 4770k and 8gb of 1600 ram and i get these game lag spikes

i have installed it on a 7200rpm wd blue hdd.

no matter the settings whether they are low or max, i still get the same lag

my cpu is usualy running at 30-60% and my gpu at 60-80%

my ram is at 90% though.

this seems to be a big issue for random people.

i have a friend with the same gpu, cpu  but he has slower ram and he plays it fine. however he has the game installed on his ssd.

so i think it might it is either the hdd speed or not enough ram.

then again i have a friend with it installed on a WD geen which is slower.

I dont know im only 15 but thats my thought.

im out to buy 8gb more ram today so i hope it will fix the issue :)

no, in graphic settings it says 1600/2000

I wouldn't go by the in-game menu. It's a ball park estimate. Download MSI Afterburner and monitor your vram/usages with that.

Try to note when the lag happens and check on MSI Afterburner what happened at that specific time. It'll give you better insight on the matter.

i was using speccy to monitor temps and my CPU was hitting 88+ degrees Celsius.   could/would that be causing an issue in thermal throttling?   im just using the stock intel cooler

88c is still fine.  Throttling should occur above that.

after playing for a while it hit 96 C.  i know i need a new cpu cooler  but would that be causing me to lag now?

Oh that's way past the throttling temps.  You are probably dropping below your stock clocks even at those temps and definitely causing some slowdowns.

So i just went out and purchased 8 more gb of ram an OMG
the game runs so smooth

i went from the game being unbearable to me wanting to play it all day!!!

in task manager while the game is running it says that 8gb of ram is being used.

so there is the solution

Get more ram!!

I now have 16gb quad channel
