Simple Video Camera

So me and my friends decided to make a movie because we are all bored.

Though we are rather taking this movie really seriously and not just a joke.

So we gathered up our savings to buy the equipment and stuff, Audio and PCs for editing is already covered

But then we need a good camera. Turns out none of us have any form of good camera, only ones that have poor res and a heck ton of noise in any condition, and that not going to fit.

So I'm on a low budget, honestly I don't know the budget, but we currently have about $200 to spend on, we probably are getting a few more extra in a few days..

With that I also need a tripod that can mount a video camera, and maybe have a few basic features like tilting and rotating etc.

TL;DR

I need suggestions on an about under $500 video camera lowest price is best though tripod suggestions would be good to

Thanks.

Are you just looking at Camcorders or also DSLR's that do video as well. if any of you have DSLR lenses you can probably get higher quality video from a used or bare DSLR than an equivalently priced camcorder.

If you look into DSLR's

http://www.magiclantern.fm/can add quite a bit of video functionality to some models of cannon DSLR (Specifically 5D2, 5D3, 6D, 7D, 50D, 60D, 500D/T1i, 550D/T2i, 600D/T3i, 650D/T4i, 700D/T5i, 1100D/T3, EOS M)

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

Doesn't really matter TBH

As long as its good.

None of us have anything. No cameras nor video cameras/camcorders that are really that good.

The video quality is awesome. Make sure you use external audio though, because the built in mic is pathetic

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

What about your phones? If you're on a newer iPhone you could use Filmic Pro and maybe a third-party lense.

I really want the shill for a DSLR but I haven't used a decent camera since I was in high school. I would imagine it would give you a lot more versatility than a point n shoot, but I don't have any recent first hand experience. if you keep the topic active I'm sure someone with more recent experience will chime in eventually.

Just a reminder. Remember to shoot at the frame rate your going to export at. I remember well how janky  60FPS footage looks when you export it at 24FPS.

When are you planning on purchasing. it's a major purchase considering your making a movie; your probably going to want to review some video from several cameras in your price range.

My brother in law told me to recommend the nikon D5200 or at least make sure its part of the discussion. His reasons included "Because its awesome for video on a buget" and "its the right price"

He would not elaborate further.

So I'm just gonna leave this here Ill try to dig up some sample footage of this and some of the ones mentioned earlier. They will probably be YouTube links but if I can find downloadable movies Ill link those as well. (because YouTube compression can do a number on video)

Trying to find good sample video has not progressed well. All the streaming services compress them so heavily that it's hard to recommend based on that; and then different videos on the same camera seem to have wildly different quality. (probably because of the settings the video where taken with.) Still looking for a decent source of uncompressed video from the camera mentioned so far.

Ohh nice looking

If I had a $250 Budget, it would be the Nikon Coolpix AW120.

If I had a $500 or so Budget, I'd get the D5200. It depends though. My friends (most of them being the movie directors/editors/etc) are coming tomorrow and we will discuss and try some options tomorrow.
