Xiaomi continues to impress with their powerful yet surprisingly cheap smartphones. They're continuing that trend with their latest smartphone - the Mi4i

For only $200 the Mi4i comes packed with impressive specs. It comes with a 5" 1920x1080p display, Snapdragon 615 octo-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, a 3,120mAh battery, and dual-SIM. Both SIM slots will accept LTE SIM cards. And speaking of LTE, here are those LTE bands: 3, 7, 38, 39, 40, 41. So no, LTE will not work on this phone in the US.

The Mi4i is aimed at the Indian market, if you want to get your hands on this phone, you'll have to import it.

One other interesting feature is that the camera will include a "Beautify Mode."

(I'll leave it to you guys to decide whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. "Beautify Mode" is optional.)

Thoughts on the Xiaomi Mi4i?

Sorta looks like an iPhone 5c...

I want one :0

Nonsense!

It's only unapologetically plastic...

Aesthetics of rigs matter

So...... is the Beautify mode supposed to compensate for the camera? I'm confused.

With beautify mode the speaker will say 'you are beautiful' when you take a selfie.

I know that sporadically they're used but is there any application on a phone that uses 8 cores? or even 4? It's hard to find case uses for them on a desktop PC nowadays I can't imagine this on a phone

Meh, still went for the Zopo Minihei x3. They should really start using metal frames and use full LTE bandwith for their high-end phones.

I'd have loved to see this have the bands needed for North America...I would have spent the money to import this for sure.

Especially with dual LTE SIM card slots!

That massive battery is a nice touch as well.

The few shots they've shown taken with the camera are actually quite impressive as well.

It's going on sale in India, and it comes with Beautify mode... do I detect a subtle dig at the appearance of Indians?

Not at all. This mode's been on Asian market cameras for a long time.

Someone's just a shit disturber.

So...... is the Beautify mode supposed to compensate for the camera? I'm confused.

No, it gets rid of wrinkles and tightens up the areas under the eyes.

Also brightens up the picture, etc. Makes it "beautiful". It's just another filter.

4 high powered cores, 4 lower powered cores. It's more of a battery saving thing in smart phones than sheer power.

They don't market their phones outside of China, there was no need for them to have widened LTE coverage.

This also isn't a high end phone.

And yet nearly every other Chinese manufacturer has full LTE bandwith. And 200+ USD is considered to be high-end for Chinese phones nearly universally.

Oppo. Huawei. ZTE. Vivo. All Chinese manufacturers with high priced flagship phones.

They also rarely support the full LTE bandwith. I've been keeping my eyes open for some that do.
