xlr to usb?

Rokin

Alright so I know very little about audio and I just recently got the monoprice large diaphragm condenser microphone. It is an xlr microphone so I got an xlr to usb cable and figured it would be as easy as plugging it into my computer. As you might have guessed I'm very wrong and I can't seem to get it to work. Can anyone help me out? Do I really need to spend another 100$ for a hub or is there a better solution ? As always thanks for the info !

Is there an external power source that you need to plug in to it somewhere to make the usb to xlr cable work?

you need an xlr interface that outputs to USB or 3.5mm analogue audio

its not as simple as a cable, its needs to be more complicated like this

Yes. The Icicle is the minimum that you can get.

The cable doesn't work because it doesn't provide phantom power, which this mic needs.

It's always best to use a USB audio interface. You need phantom power for that microphone. This basically boils down to power supply. The other thing is that you get to control the volume right from the interface. I bought the Focusrite Scarlet from Amazon.
