$600 pc upgrade?

adamsjus1
Go to solution Solved by adamsjus1,

So for now I think I will plan to go with this- http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZngHD3

I put a cheaper motherboard in there that matches my colors that I need. That did bring the price down a little bit so I should be able to get it sooner. I think I might actually do a build vlog and bench marks too.   Going from a PC that I spent around $400 total with a $40 cpu to a  $200 cpu and new motherboard and stuffs.

Seem good to you people?

So I am finally looking into upgrading my pc. I am looking at spending about $600. This could go toward anything. Don't need to upgrade case/keyboard/mouse.

Currently I am running an: FX-4130 at 4.4

Cooled with a hyper 212 evo with two sp 120mm fans

16gb of Crucial RAM

R9 270x windforce cooler.

Gigabyte GA-78lmt-usb3 (motherboard)

EVGA 750watt powersupply

1 tb western digital blue

And my monitor is a 60hz acer (1680x1050 res)

What do you think I should do? I do live right next to a micro center. But I am fine with getting things from newegg and amazon.

Assuming you can reuse your old case, Ram, cooler, PSU, and hard drive, try this:

Get an i5 4690K, AsRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer and a GTX 970 Strix/TFV/Windforce. If you don't want to buy the GPU now, you can always use your 270X and wait for AMD's next generation and NVIDIA's next generation, whenever those are slated to release and in the meantime get an SSD and a 1080p monitor.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 512GB SKHynix PC401, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2x Micron 1100 256GB SATA SSDs | GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Pure Wings 3 | Case: Sliger SM580 (Black) | PSU: Lian Li SP 850W

Server: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) Crucial DDR4 Pro | Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS AC-HES | Storage: 128GB Samsung PM961, 4TB Seagate IronWolf | GPU: AMD FirePro WX 3100 | Cooling: EK-AIO Elite 360 D-RGB | Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow (White) | PSU: Seasonic Focus GM-850

Miscellaneous: Dell Optiplex 7060 Micro (i5-8500T/16GB/512GB), Lenovo ThinkCentre M715q Tiny (R5 2400GE/16GB/256GB), Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF (i5-6400/8GB/128GB)

FX-6300 ($90)

SAPPHIRE R9 270x 4GB ($180)

2x4 GB GSkill Ripjaw X ($60)

WD Caviar Blue ($50)

Gigabyte FX990 ($100)

that totals $480, you only need 8 GB of RAM

750W PSU is overkill, for a motherboard go with FX990 if you can.

That's the smallest upgrade I have ever seen, it will only game marginally better than his current machine.

It's the one he posted in the topic, hence the word "Upgrade."

I'd say that some of these choices are odd, rather specifically the CPU and motherboard. Since OP lives near a Micro Center, he can take advantage of their $200 4690K with $40 off of any motheboard.

How well does the i5 4690k perform? Because it was told to me that at microcenter (in store only) When you but an i5 4690k or i7 4970k then you get $40 off of a motherboard... And I am big into colors and my colors for this build is red and black.

I5 4690k is devil's canyon, and is the best overclockable I5 out there.
