upgraded processor and now computer crashes frequently

Aaron mstep

I built a new computer last month and just yesterday i upgraded my cpu to an amd a10 7850k. everything booted up just fine right away but shortly after it begin crashing after every 30-45 minutes the temps were all low, everything was connected properly (i think). after looking around on the internet i attempted troubleshooting but that did not help after a while i decided to wipe everything and reinstall windows 8.1. once i did that i reinstalled all the drivers and so forth but even after all this i am still experiencing crashes. i am at the point were i have no idea on what to try. most of the crash error messages tell me irql_not_less_or_equal. but on the other hand when i look into the event logs it tells me this "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly". i would really appreciate some help i don't know what else to try.

Amd a10 7850k

Try putting that back in and seeing how the system reacts. Two things I see being the issue: The VRM on the board(it's probably totally fine) and the APU itself.

I would send your APU in for RMA.

You can try that first then if the same thing happens or the temperatures are too high, you should upgrade your CPU cooler.

all the errors points to power lost

check your power connections

otherwise your PSU is failing

is there something i am doing wrong? Why does my lesser quality cpu function properly, meanwhile i can't go extended periods of time with the kavari before there is a bsod.

Is there a way to test that? The psu is just under two months old. and like i said everything on my desktop works perfectly with my old cpu in it.

Not sure if this has been covered in the thread already, but you can try the Paperclip test, or you can pick up a PSU tester for 5-10 bucks off amazon and use that.

only way is just to borrow a working PSU

if with the new CPU and it does not crash

then the PSU is at fault

even new PSU will just go nuts

It will allow us to see what is causing the BSOD and potentially confirm if it is a PSU issues.

Well unfortunately i have more bad news. I had my PSU tested and it was working properly. Secondly I also ordered a Corsair H60 water cooler in case that it was the temps being high causing the BSOD. After installation of that my temps are down but once again i am still continuing to BSOD. Does anyone else want to throw out an idea on what i should try now?
