Removing Thermal Paste?

Kurtis444
Go to solution Solved by Interfectorem,

There isn't a huge significant difference between 70% and 99% alcohol besides the concentration, which should not be a problem. Just pour some alcohol on a cloth and wipe down the CPU. Also, no, the alcohol will not remove the printing on the IHS.

Since my 4790k gets quite toasty with the stock cooler, I got the Hyper 212 EVO, but I am unsure how to remove the old thermal paste. Is a significant difference between 70% and 99% isopropyl alcohol?

Also, will the alcohol remove the printing on the TIM, which I will need to read in the event of a RMA.

I used 70% alcohol and my computer hasn't blown up yet. Should be fine :)
