Cheap Laptop for general use.

OffensiveExile

I was wondering if this is a good laptop to get: http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/lenovo/flex/flex-2-14/

I will only be using it for documents, netflix and occasionally playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. There's a model with 6gb of ram which I am interested in but my main concern is that it only uses integrated graphics and I've never used a laptop like that for games before.

Will I still be able to play some games on it with 30-60 fps?

I would say that you could do some web browsing, emailing, and maybe some basic gaming. It isn't powerful at all. Depends on what games you plan on running.

If you want to play games get something with a Broadwell i5. I have a Haswell i5 laptop with integrated graphics and it already does decently in games. CS:GO is no problem. It can even run GTA 5 at 30+ FPS (lowest settings though, but it's an ultrabook so I'm not complaining). Broadwell improves the graphics even more. If you really want something to game on consider a laptop with AMD's APUs (A8/A10) but they won't be as thin or light as Intel's offerings due to the need for bigger cooling.

I mentioned the main game I would be playing in the OP :)

I haven't really used AMD before, I know they're good for budget builds but never really seen a good reason to go with them.

Yes, preferably in GBP too.

Yes, preferably in GBP too.

For that price there's a fantastic deal on a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series right now.

http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15-5548-laptop/pd?ref=PD_OC

The 500GBP model comes with a 5th generation Core i7 CPU as well as dedicated Radeon R9 M270 graphics.

The only downside is that the screen is only 1366x768. If you don't mind that then it's a steal for the price in terms of other specs. However if you want full HD then there's the Lenovo Z50. The 450GBP model with FX-7500 and R9 M260 graphics is also a decent deal, but IMO not as good of one as the Dell.

I've already seen those and didn't expect that I would need the power. What about the 17" laptops? http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-17-5749-laptop/pd?oc=cn74913&model_id=inspiron-17-5749-laptop

Well, I'm not really bothered about the bios since I'll only be using it for some documents, netflix and some games.

Decent. If you feel like you actually need a 17" laptop (losing a lot of portability vs a 15") then that's also a decent choice for your uses. However get the i5 version, for the Inspiron 17 5000, the i7 model doesn't bring much to the table for an extra 50 quid. http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-17-5749-laptop/pd?oc=cn74912&model_id=inspiron-17-5749-laptop

I'll probably be downgrading it to windows 7 ultimate too since I've never enjoyed the interface for windows 8.

What would you recommend for my current budget?

Well, I won't be doing much movement with the laptop, if anything, it'll be in 1 of 3 rooms in my house.

It will be moved daily at random times and cable management for a PC (no matter what size) is quite annoying.

Then yeah for around-the-house usage sure get the 17", you just won't be getting as good bang for your buck as the 15" that's on sale.

I understand the 15" is better but would the difference be huge?

Doesn't matter really, it's just to compare the size. Most 15" laptops are of similar size and most 17" are of similar size.
