Xiaomi Yi action camera (GoPro alternative) $78.99 ends April 24th

dylan43270

I was looking to either get a waterproof case for my DSLR or get a Gopro, then I stumbled upon this. I looked up some video comparisons and it looks pretty good, especially for less than 1/4th the price. Going to be using this for my river trip on 4th of July. :)

The name can definitely be a little off-putting, but Xiaomi has made a name for themselves as a great budget Chinese product that competes well with higher end stuff.

You can find the Amazon link (more expensive) here.

Records 1080p at 60fps, and 720p at 120fps.

Not bad... not bad at all!  I doubt most people will stray from the name brand, but those who do may get a killer value.  You should post some review thoughts when you get your hands on it.

1080p60... its perfect

If only people would actually put 60 FPS videos on youtube instead of just video games... just sayin'

not saying all shows have to be like that, just stuff with action, such as driving or riding a bike or etc. etc.

I think the reason cameras record at 60 and + FPS is mostly for Slow-Mo

makes sense. But one example of a video where you need 60 fps is a car. Say someone is driving a really fast car, and they want to show the speed to others. A video is perfect right? wrong. @ 30 fps it ALWAYS looks like you are going stupid slow unless your going like over 200 mph. to prove this for yourself, go find a 70 mph highway and get a sense of speed from it while driving, then record it on a phone or something @ 30 fps and watch it and tell me how slow it looks.

Then do the same thing at 60 fps and notice the difference, its huge!

It just drives me insane when im watching TheSmokingTire or even /Drive sometimes on youtube, as all their videos are in 30 FPS (maybe not all of /Drive, but definetly TheSmokingTire)

Hell be accelerating and telling me that its fast, but the speed difference on camera is negligible, and to know he is using GoPro's that are compatible with 60 fps and not utilizing them drives me insane.

Please please please do some research with that Geekbuying website before buying anything there. Seems to have very low rating.

It seems that most of the bad reviews are people that are trying to get phones or other expensive items fixed, or that they are upset about it taking that long to ship. If I have any issues with needing to get it fixed I will probably contact Xiaomi directly, and I am already planning on waiting forever for it to deliver with free shipping from China.

There are also quite a lot of reviews that people are getting refurbished or defective items. Whatever it is, keep that in mind this thing can or will bound to happen with this kind of website. Check with Xiaomi on the warranty support. The amount of people complaining about the site even from just a quick internet search already put me off from buying there no matter how cheap the item is. I just dont trust using my card with the site. Hope you'll receive your item just fine.
