Monitor choosing and upgradability

I am planing to build a gaming PC which I will also use for photoshop and video editing. I have chosen all of the parts I want to have in my build, and I want to know if my monitor will be a good choice for what I will be using it for. The Asus VG248QE is the monitor I have chosen so far, but I am wondering if it is a good fit. With 144Hz in response time, this monitor seems quick enough for the games I will be playing (Battlefield, Counterstrike, Call of duty, ect.). I plan to upgrade to another MSI GTX 970 graphics card, or even two MSI GTX 980 graphics cards in the future after this build. I also chose this monitor because I don't want to spend more than $300 (US dollars). Will this monitor be able to run games at 1440p? In general is it a good monitor for my build?
