Some help with an operating system reinstallation

ELGAR

Please excuse the computer noobery that I am about to unleash upon you, but I have to ask.

The hard drive in my laptop recently began to fail, (at least that's what I assume, from the painfully slow boot time and ugly ratcheting sounds) and I'm going to make the attempt to replace it.The problem comes from my spotty understanding of operating systems. I'm confident that I can replace the hard drive, but reinstalling windows 8 worries me.

So how does one go about reinstalling an OEM operating system? I'm hoping it's as simple as installing a new drive and using the recovery usb stick I made when I bought the computer, but that seems like it would be too easy.

Any help would be appreciated.

first download magicjelly bean key finder..that will get you your cd key

https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

once you done that..write it down so you don't loose it

after that..post when you are done..then we can give you more instructions

once that is done..you probably want to download this iso file

..you'll need a torrent client for that..I can probably find just the ddl tho if you need

btw..if your wondering where I got that link ..and if its safe..

Sorry I'm late, I just got back to the computer. I'm not actually ready to start yet, I still need to order a hard drive and make time to get work done. I'm mostly trying to get an idea of what needs to be done to reinstall my OS. Thanks for your time all the same.

I have my product key, so that shouldn't be an issue. I'd still like to know where that ISO file idea is going though.

Sorry, that sounded really sarcastic the way I worded it. What I meant by that was that I wouldn't know what to do with an ISO file that I'd downloaded.
