Not sure if this is appropriate to post here, but I really need help/suggestions on my selected config, as follows:

  1. CPU
    Intel Core i7-5930K 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor    $552.95
    Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor    $362.95
  2. CPU Cooler
Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler    $92.53
  3. Motherboard
    Asus X99-DELUXE ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard    $357.99
MSI X99S SLI Plus ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard    $151.99
  4. Memory
    Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2800 Memory    $219.99

Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case    $99.99
  8. Power Supply
Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply    $43.00
XFX XTR 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply    $61.98
  9. Optical Drive
    Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer    $18.95

Total: $2,395.27
Total: $1,751.56

Since this will be my first build, I'm not confident at all... Is this config good to go or is there anything that still need to be tweaked? Do I need any other cooler fans? Is there anything else that I'm missing?

Useful Information
- Budget: Around $2500
- Zip Code or Location: Michigan, USA
- Specific Use: I only do some slight gaming, but I do program a lot and will run a couple of virtual machines as well.
- Overclocking your processor?: No need...
- Preferred Case Features: black or black/red case
- Number of Monitors: 2 x 1080p ASUS VN247H-P

Any help is appreciated! :)

Why do your need a 512gb ssd?

At that budget you should have a Titan X

Intel Core i7 9700k - EVGA FTW GTX 970

You're going really balls to the wall for a first build...  You could build an equally competent gaming machine for a lot less money.

The one thing I would change is put a better power supply in that thing.  Something like: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438017

4K // R5 3600 // RTX2080Ti

...

It depends on what you want to do with your PC.

If it's only gaming, then the CPU you chose is way to overkill.

I might install multiple systems like windows 8, windows 10, ubuntu etc.

Titan X costs almost twice as much. Not sure if that's worth it? What do you think?

Unless you need the extra power or money isn't an issue, the Titan X probably isn't worth getting.

Agreed. I don't do too much gaming and I think 980 should be enough for me. ;)

The 980 is in a similar light as well being not that good of a value albeit not as bad as the Titan X.

It would help to go over the thread I linked above and filling in information such as the currency you're using, etc.

For slight gaming you don't need a GTX 980. A GTX 970 would be a cheaper option.

Also do you need a 6 core cpu ? If so then switch to the i7 5820K and save a couple of hundred $$$.

The whole X99 platform is pretty high grade and not entirely beneficial unless you're doing a ton of rendering work.

But the big thing that stands out is component selection the 5930K instead of the 5820K.  They perform nearly identically at the same clockspeeds and it's not very difficult to overclock the 5820K.  There's a MSI X99 board that is much cheaper and offering pretty much any feature I can think of that is useful. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130796 You could also spend less on the memory, I'd recommend Crucial instead of Corsair or G-Skill.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148865

Not sure if you're going nvidia for CUDA use or not, but you could easily put a 295x2 in there for maybe $100-200 more and get significantly more performance, especially at higher resolutions.  Or even buy a pair of 290's and run them in crossfire, which will cost about the same as the 980 and perform slightly worse than the 295x2.

If you don't plan on using the machine for anything other than gaming, you could honestly save a metric shit ton of money by getting an unlocked i5, a z97 mobo and DDR3 memory without having any tangible effect on gaming performance.  We're talking spending $500 for the CPU/mobo/RAM combined rather than $1000.

EDIT:

Wrote this and see that gaming isn't the focus.

I would recommend a cheaper GPU if that's the case.  Do you need CUDA for work related applications?  Or is it just to drive the display(s)?

Thanks for your advice. Do you think "EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card" works?

5820k is 6 core too, it just has 28 PCIE lanes instead of 40...

Your advice helps a lot! I'll tweak some parts according to your advice. :)

Also, do you think there's a benefit of choosing 2 x 8G RAM over 4 x 4G RAM, other than the fact that it's more expandable in the future?

With X99 because it is quad channel having 4 sticks is absolutely better than 2.  But it is less expandable.  That said, most x99 motherboards have 8 DIMM slots so unless you need more than 32 GB of RAM I would say the 4x4 makes more sense.  Normally with dual channel boards it would absolutely make more sense to get 8 GB sticks over 4GB ones.

Thanks! What do you think of the updated config? Do you think that I still need a better power supply?

By filling in information, do you mean I write the information in that thread or I put those information in my original post? I'm a bit confused...

How many virtual machines do you tend to run?

Do you already have your displays? Is a copy of Windows or any other peripherals needed?

Correct. That is why I suggested it, as for a single card setup the 5930k is overkill.
