Old HDD's not being read after OS install on SSD

Go to solution Solved by dragoon20005,

Okay I figured it out. For anyone with the same issue I found what was needed was: a driver within "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" for my chipset. Once I installed that all my drives appeared and worked correctly.

ah yes that is the Intel Standard SATA drivers for the Intel Chipset

I was finally able to get an SSD for my boot drive, but I've been having problems getting my two HDD's to be read by Windows. I was getting errors during the cloning process so I just installed Windows from scratch (had my 2 HDDs unplugged whIle doin so). All 3 drives are read fine in the BIOS but once I boot up into the SSD I can't find either HDD in the Device Manager or Computer Management apps. I tried searching for drivers using Windows autos search but it found nothing. If all else fails I'm wondering if buying a SATA to USB and connecting the drives that way would let me read the partitions too. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

My specs are:

Windows 8.1

Xeon 1321 v3

GTX 970 and 750

ASRock H81M

WD Blue 1TB

Seagate Barracuda 1TB

Samsung 850 Evo

Yes, all three drives show up fine in the BIOS so I know they aren't dead. I can even boot onto the WD Blue. Maybe I could use the Windows installer to delete the partitions on the WD blue and Barracuda, but there is some data that I wanted to keep on the Barracuda.

Do the drives show up in the BIOS?

I had similar issues when I installed my SSD, for me the fix was to reset the BIOS settings... maybe that will work for you too..

Oh! Thank you!

I can "Load UEFI defaults" but that's the closest thing I can find in regards to resetting my BIOS settings. Sadly it didn't work :( thanks for the suggestion though!

I still would like to know if getting a SATA to USB cord would get me a higher chance of reading a drive. If I can format the WD Blue (the only way I know how to do that is with Windows installer, but are there better ones?) and get but get the folders from the barracuda transferred to it everything will be fine.

I tried using SATA to USB to read my drive, but i could not get that to work.. maybe you are luckier than me if you try that...

Hmm... I'll go look to see if I can find a cord in a nearby store and try, but I won't be getting my hopes up too much for it.

Thank you for all the help guys! When I get home I'll probaby try reformatting my WD blue using the windows installer and see if it will show up when i rebpot in Windows. I still don't want to format the Barracuda for now though.
