i5 4690k running 100% during games

Moustachio

Greetings

While playing games my cpu usage ramps up to 90%+ and even 100%.

The issue is known in almost every game I've played (cs go, FIFA 15, GTA V, Far Cry 4, Battlefield 4)

Note: in some games it's not that big of a deal but it still is extremely high, however when there are spikes to 100% I start experiencing inconveniences.

Known in game issues:

FIFA 15:  audio stuttering

GTA V: background task lags and when I go to the main menu it is very laggy the first 10 seconds

My Specs:

Windows 8.1

i5 4690k @4.3 GHz

4x 2gb (8GB) RAM @1333 MHz

Asus Maximus VII Ranger

GTX 970 Asus Strix

Things I've already tried:

Of course I've googled a lot of information and tried out some stuff to get rid of this.

I've seen some small improvements, but nothing seems to make a big difference.

- resetting everything to default in BIOS

- updating BIOS, all drivers etc

- Checked CPU temps and they're OK

- unparking CPU in registry

- disabling Speedstep Technology and CPU C-states in BIOS

- overclocking manually, automatically, running at stock speed

- playing with nvidia control panel settings

I'm hoping for someone to come with a real solution or at least an explanation.

I've seen lots of people on youtube running games with simular setups without any problems.

Thanks in advance to everyone trying to help me out!

it should be running at 100%, that means the game is well optimized

whats the GPU usage?

in GTA 5 its probobly because it just launched and needs some patches, its an issue with tabbing out of gta v and the typing is kinda laggy (heard it somewhere)

does this only happen in fifa 15 and Gta5?

Not for that CPU and not for the games he listed (well, maybe GTA).

@sgtcool I'll check the GPU usage tomorrow when I have some more time :)

and I hope the lag gets patched out and yes the real issues only happen in GTA V and FIFA 15, but the CPU usages seem pretty high to me in other games too or is this perfectly normal?

@Skreedles Known in game issues:

FIFA 15:  audio stuttering

GTA V: background task lags and when I go to the main menu it is very laggy the first 10 seconds

Also when I want to view a livestream + play FIFA, the fifa audio starts stuttering pretty badly.

Audio stuttering could be the game's programming.

It's normal for background tasks to stutter while you are playing a game.

It's not weird that your CPU is under 100% load.

@sgtcool I've tested the GPU usage in a few games:

Everything was tested on more or less the max settings at 1080p with nothing else running in the background

The CPU usages represent the CPU usage that is used by the game only, NOT the total cpu usage.

CS GO:

CPU usage: 65%-80%

GPU usage: 50%-75% (Peak: 88%)

FIFA 15:

CPU usage: 70%-93%

GPU usage: 60%-99%

GTA V:

CPU usage: 87%-95%

GPU usage: 85%-99%

- CS GO is running perfectly fine, but I added is as a reference

- In FIFA there was no lag what so ever, however when I would do some extra stuff that would make the total CPU usage spike to 100% it would start stuttering

- GTA V in game is all good, whenever I enter the main menu the cpu and gpu usage drop but I can't navigate properly through the menu because it's so laggy

Also when I alt tab to other applications, while playing GTA then the applications run very slow

Note: all the previous efforts that I already did seem to have improved my gaming experience (lag in FIFA dissapeared and the CPU usages dropped quite a bit in pretty much every game), but they still seem a little high to me, or is this perfectly normal?
