Movie Thread

Dude

Hey guys,

I felt as if this place needed a place to talk about movies and it kinda does.

Just gonna lay down one rule for the thread though;

1) Don't be pretentious

You can like Die Hard, Synecdoche, New York and Happy Gilmore at the same time for all I care, don't be a dick.

I'll start the thread off by saying that the new Star Wars trailer brought a tear to my eye, Batman vs Superman still needs to convince me and Happy Gilmore gets really bad after multiple viewings.

Have fun

Is it any good though? I laughed my head off watching the trailer, especially when one of them wails "The glitch is typing".

So do I just comment on what was already said, or do I add something? And if I am suppose to add something, how do I do it?

I never liked Happy Gilmore. I never really liked Adam Sandler as a comedy actor. He was brilliant in Punch-Drunk-Love, which just makes me wonder why he didn't focus on a more drama oriented movie career.

If I am suppose to add something, I can say that I'm a big fan of Italien horror movies, especially Lucio Fulci films.

I recently watched Porno Holocaust, which might be the worst movie I have ever seen, and I have seen Trash Humpers

WTF is that!?!?

An Italian "horror" movie from 1981. Basic plot is this: A group of scientists needs to examin an island where nuclear tests have been conducted.

On the island, there is a mutated man that proceeds to kill most of the crew.

The experience of watching the movie was best explained by Brad Jones: "It's talking and fucking".

Even worse, the talking is boring and the fucking is even worse than the talking.

Well, i like a lot of movies :D

Some of my favorites are

- How To Train Your Dragon and 2 - I just liked it. I like almost anything decent with dragons, and this is far better than decent :) It has heart warming story with a nice pacing :D I'm also a sucker for sweet, vanilla romance :D

- Ratatouille - I also liked it :) I think the story is nice, it's about food and it has romance :D

- Limitless - It's a low budget movie which i really liked :D

- Shawshank Redemption - A classic i watched with my cousin :D It's just that good :D

- Saša -  A Serbian black and white movie that i really like

And many, many, many more movies. I'll post them if i remember to do it :D

Italian horror never ceases to fascinate me. Although, if you're looking for bad-tertainment then I'd suggest watching "No Holds Barred" - A movie in which Hulk Hogan makes somebody eat money, shit themself and prevents a rape by driving the rapist into a tree with his motorcycle.

Usually these Italien horror/explotation movies have really good practical effect, which is a good reason watch them.

Some movies, like Cannibal Holocaust, also have a good story and offers good commentary on society.

Porno Holocaust offers nether of these.

Also, I payed about 3$ for the DVD, and it's worth 3$ to have a DVD that says ´Porno Holocaust´ on it.

I have watched No Holds Barred, and it is really enjoyable.

Also an amazing "So bad it's good" movie: The Room. Most people probably already know about it, but it's always worth mentioning.

I'm not familiar with either Italian horror films (i don't watch horrors unless they're really good) or "No Holds Barred", but are you seriously suggesting to someone to watch a Hulk Hogan movie O.o That guy couldn't act even if his life depended on it! I could act better than him, and i have a pretty big problem with stage fright... -_-

I like horror movies, but I can't stand watching movies with bad special effects, so old really old movies fall in that category.

And trust me new Italian non-horror movies are awful.

I recently watched The Zero Theorem - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2333804/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I really enjoyed it, highly recommended.

A hugely talented but socially isolated computer operator is tasked by Management to prove the Zero Theorem: that the universe ends as nothing, rendering life meaningless. But meaning is what he already craves.

@GrimNeo does a weekly movie discussion (when he can that is) just in case you didn't know...  But yeah a thread to discuss movies in general is a good idea; although i'll end up sitting here for hours talking about them. So I'll abandon thread.

Old movies don't have to have bad effects. Un Chien Andalou is just one example of a really old movie with a great practical effect.

While it isn't a horror movie, it does contain a scene where a eye is cut open. That shocked a lot of people in 1929.

I haven't really kept up with Italien cinema, so I'll take your word for it.

Some of my favorite movies do come from Italy. i am a big fan of the neorealism movement and of Sergio Leone movies.

The point of watching ´No Holds Barred´ is to dwell in how bad it is. It's the same way people watch The Room. It's just so bad, that it's good.

I don't have problem with "bad" movies per se (ultimately it depends who you ask about it), and some of my favorite movies are "guilty pleasure" ones that are considered bad. I do have a huge problem with poor acting... I can't stand it... It breaks my immersion into the plot of the movie...

Movies I have seen recently

Furious 7: pretty good as long as you ignore the impossible physics of a lot of the stuff. I liked the plot, but people said earlier ones were better (I havent seen earlier than #6).

Insurgent: Better than divergent, although I think the main character would look better if she kept her long hair.

Paul Blart Mall Cop 2: Really funny, pretty good movie considering it was made for all audiences. Could be ruined by little kids in the theater though. Not really a movie that benefits a whole lot from seeing it in the theater, so rent it when it comes out if you want to avoid loud kids.

My stage fright nearly ruined my school life, I can still act better than him. But that's not the point, the movie is so bad that it's brilliant.

The earlier fast and furious movies were pretty horrible. Honestly, young adult novel adaptations a la hunger games bore me and annoy me. Paul Blart 2's trailer looked horrifyingly bad.

My friends thought the plot for the earlier movies were better, not necessarily the final product.

Never got into Hunger Games, but Divergent peaked my interest when I smelled pizza in the dorm room next to mine at 2am.

Mall cop 2 isn't meant to be taken seriously as a high quality production. It is just meant to entertain everyone from children to the elderly, which it managed to do. If you want to see some terrible movies that are still incredibly funny watch Airplane, Airplane 2, The Naked Gun, The Naked Gun 2 1/2, and The Naked Gun 33 1/3. All terrible movies as far as acting and production go, but still incredibly funny.

What? The Naked Gun movies are parodies and incredibly funny, by no means are they bad.

Love a good movie. Always looks to expand my collection, now with Netflix here that's even easier than before, where I was actually buying the damn things.

Some of my favourites would have to be;

-The Millennium Trilogy (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest & The Girl Who Played With Fire)

-One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

-Beverly Hills Cop

-Red Dog

-Pi

-American History X

-SE7EN

-The Blues Brothers

-A Clockwork Orange

-Machete

-Pulp Fiction

-Seven Psychopaths

-Train Spotting

-21 Jump Street

-American Beauty

I've got something like 120 Blu-Rays at last count. It's nice to have movies on hand like that.
