Need a BIOS update!

ArcticfoxHQ

Hello, I recently bought my system and when I go to turn it on, nothing displays on my graphics card. My specs are:

AMD fx9590

Gigabyte GA-990fx-ud7

Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970

Corsair v1000

16gbs Kingston HyperX Black Edition

Kingston HyperX 3k 240gb

Seagate Barracuda 2tb

I have been told this is a compatibility issue between my motherboard and my graphics card which is resolved in the latest edition of the BIOS. The problem is, without any visual, I cant update my bios. I cannot afford another graphics solution and there is no on board graphics. I don't know what to do. Please help.

Is that a computer or a jet engine? Why not both?

maybe you can get the help of the PC shop where you bought the parts to help you update the mobo

I ordered from separate places for most of my parts.

Its not your graphics card, its you CPU. Look close at your motherboard, what revision number is it? If it is Revision 1.7 it does not support the 9590 even with a BIOS update.

It has to be a revision 3.0 board and updated with the #FC BIOS before it will support the 9590.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

I had the CPU, RAM, and mother board working in another system. So my CPU is supported. Its revision 3.0. But it still does not support the GTX 970.

I don't see how your motherboard can't "support" a GTX 970. I ran one in a 790i from 2008 just fine. So if you plug in another video card that isn't a GTX 970 it works? Have you tried your 970 in another system to see if the card isn't just DOA?

Strange right? Straight off Gigabyte's specs page.

Thats why I always go with a cpu that has intergrated gpu on it just to be on the safe side.

I have a similar problem. My rig doesn't post it just gives this black screen with underscore on the top left corner and a b2 on the bottom right but after about 2mins give or take it goes to windows. I can still use it normally but if I needed to go into bios then thats a problem.I know I need to update my Bios but it doesn't let me. Details will be updated on my thread if you're interested. We do have a similar problem but I was able to use my cpu graphics to update drivers, then afterwards plug in the GTX to do the rest.

Sorry for taking over this thread I know it doesn't help with your problem but Im sure you can find a solution soon enough.

Did some more digging.

Gigabyte released these: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5209&dl=1&RWD=0#bios

Seems they had compatibility issues with certain monitors and connections. Not motherboard incompatibility, just Display Port and HDMI bugs. If you can get the card working you can flash the BIOS pretty easily and solve the issue. Try a different monitor if possible or swap to a different connection on the card, it appears some people had luck doing that so they could perform the upgrade.

What a bizarre issue to crop up.

I used a different monitor and it received no signal. I have tried both DVI and the HDMI ports and two separate monitors. The card itself works. All fans spin and the logo illuminates. I have no other system thats compatible with the card. I might be able to barrow a 6970 to get the drivers and download the latest bios for my motherboard. if that doesn't work then I'm gonna have to sell the parts in my system and buy a new one. (Except for the 970). Also, wouldn't the card not turn on if it was DOA?

I would love to get gigabyte on the phone with me but theres so many different things it could be and I have no way to test them.

Sounds like the card is no good. Even if the fans spin and logo illuminates, it can still be a DOA card. If you can take it back and exchange it, then do so. If not then RMA it, Gigabyte has a good and relatively quick RMA system.

Test the card in another system. I seriously doubt it's the motherboard.

I'd have to RMA it if I were to do anything because I ordered it online. The only reason I think it is the motherboard is because someone said they had the exact same issue with the same board. I don't have any way to test it. There is no other system that I could use. Wouldnt my motherboard display a post code for there being no graphics card if it was DOA?

It isn't displaying one at all. Last time I had a graphics card not working it was displaying a code so I don't understand what is going on.

the BIOS is returning an error code

the code will indicate if its a hardware fault
