Painting Ram - How should I approach this?

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Ok, how would I get the ram back on? I know something like wood glue wouldn't work

Those RAM heatsinks are held in place by a clip on each end of the and the thermal pads which is an adhesive holding it in place. You may need new thermal pads or be able to reuse them if you remove them carefully, I do suggest using a hair dryer if you want to try and remove it in one piece.

SO I have some ugly ass blue ram that doesn't match my build at all...

And I want it to be red because that matches my build. Do I need to take off the heat spreaders or is it ok to just take some nail polish and slap it on there? While being careful of coarse!

Nail polish will probably look terrible, just saying. As for taking it off, yes you can do that usually (in order to spray paint it for example) but you should also be careful. Some manufacturers glue the "heat spreader" on to the point where you can rip off memory modules if you aren't careful.

I would suggest using some plasti-dip or red spray paint, it would be best if you remove the heatsinks and and mask the contacts where the thermal pads make contact.

Uh so it's more work than I expected... So better to just trade them with someone.
