Going for 1.5V, will this do?

I've discovered today (off Intel's website) that the maximum safe voltage for my QX6850 is 1.5V, so I've decided to overclock the crap out of it. The problem however is that I'm running at the limits of my CM Seidon 120V (well I think I am, 1 of the 2 dies in the CPU runs hotter than the other, either that or the temp sensor/TMI is faulty). Will the Nepton 280L be enough to get this CPU to its limits? If not what are some other coolers that I can look at?

I'd go with the NH-D15 assuming that it fits in your case, it costs less, has less points of failure and seems to perform better than the 280L even when the AIO is outfitted with better fans.

That being said I agree with Atmos, there isn't that much point spending that much on a CPU that's so old.

Honestly, don't waste the money buying a super expensive LC kit, just so you can overclock the balls off of some old cpu. you're better off keeping what you have, saving up the cash, and buying a better cpu later.

If this is just some little project, then sure. The Nepton will get the job done, so will something like a TT Water 3 Ultimate with its triple 120m rad.

I'm aiming to have the heat directed out of the case though (I'm going to post a thread for recommendations on a case that supports 240mm rads) as the VRM are hot enough as is inside my Antec GX 500 (all fan mounts in use and filtered).

I've got an i5 4440 and a H87M Pro motherboard that can overclock an i7 4770K past 4.5GHz, I'm going to be using this rig for a long time until I can buy an i7 4770K/4790K cheap in a few years time-I'm aiming at having each rig going for as long as possible. I want to use this rig as it suits my current needs so the i7 can wait until this rig needs to be replaced. I'll start looking for benchmarks of the 2 and direct comparisons.
