I don't see the problem. Personally, I wouldn't buy a new Seagate hard drive.... but this is a reasonable drive to mess around with. This would be good to test out Windows 10.

I actually have plenty of refurbished WD (250 GB) drives in raid 5 that I use as a back-up. Bought 5 of them a year ago, and none are showing bad sectors so far.

How is that any different from any other hard drive some one might buy?  

If it's refurbished by the manufacturer, what's the difference?

I doubt Western Digital would share their refurbishment process, but if you're right, even more reason to buy refurb hard drives.  

 

It would be like buying a slightly used car -- all the benefits of a new car (good condition, warranty) with the advantages of used (reduced price).  Win!

Probably how they do it. Saves them money in needing to make a case for the drive and thus you get a bit of the savings.

Many refurbished items are actually just "re-packaged". Two of the WD drives I received only had 2 days of use ( be aware that you could easily wipe this information from a drive ), but the other three had more than two years. 

 

Other things like broken sata connectors, or bad controller boards are actually really easy fixes (for the manufacturers).

Someone (who needs a lot of drives, like 50 or more) is gonna have to dive in and buy nothing but refurb drives for us and report back after 2 years or so

 

 

If the waters are clear then we can all dive in a eat up refurbished drives as soon as they appear on the shelves

ummm... i have this exact drive. ripped it out from an old xps system that is 7 years old. still runs strong and fine with my steam library. dont know why yall hatin...
