So confused... NAS.

Hello,

I've been thinking about creating my own NAS recently. However I have almost no clue how... I understand what a NAS is and know about programs like freeNAS etc. and a little about switchers but that really is it. Google searches have helped, but it's Google so I really have no clue what I'm looking for. If any of you wonderful people could please better inform me on how to create a NAS or recommend/send me links to videos and articles, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I personally built my own and used FreeNAS.

Use freenas or ubuntu/debian with webmin panel.

Freenas is the simpliest way.

When I say links and videos I mean more guides and tips, but thank you.

When installing FreeNAS(if that's your choice), you'll probably hit a hardware diagnosis section upon first boot. Let it go for 15 minutes if that happens and the OS should proceed to the point where the server is usable.
