Urgent Question: Are there any alternatives to these laptops ?

Apologies, first time posting here, forgive any mistakes.

So it happens i have to urgently get a Laptop in the Morning to be ready by the night to be able to use it for some unexpected event the next morning, 2AM GMT+8 now.

I am in a dilemma as I am not well versed in Gaming laptops

Looking for laptops that can be used for

-Gaming Eg. DOTA 2, Starcraft, GTA 5 Etc.

-Game Development - Uni, semi - Uni

Focus is mainly, Processor and Graphics card. No need any regard for display or speakers/.

Needs to be light, 1.5 hrs train ride standing everyday.

Preferably ASUS, MSI, ACER, LENOVO.

I came upon these at the store last night, caught my eye :

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/compare/NX.MUUAA.003-NX.MUYAA.003-NX.MUTAA.005-NX.MQRAA.010

Are there any better alternatives which are a bang for the buck around the same price point(s) ?

Thank You,

GuacheSuede

Bad link. But regardless, I'm not a personal fan of Acer. Not their computers, anyways. Between ASUS, MSI, and Lenovo, I really wouldn't know who to pick from, but again, I would at least eliminate Acer if I were to be in your shoes.

For gaming, big no-no, you need gpu power, and none of them have that.

Search at the gaming series for asus and msi, if there is anything that looks intresting.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

MSI - 860/960 M like Acer, higher price point, focus seems to be on aesthetics .

Asus - Too heavy to lug 3.8kg on train tripes daily, those ROG series.

Kinda stuck in a spot.

Dont mind me asking, why would one not get Acer ? Seems really reasonable for that price compared to MSI

Asus has 15" fairly thin laptop, whose name escapes me right now (the one Linus used on the highlander trip), and i believe it has an 860m, which is fairly decent.

How would it perform on lets say, GTA ?

Give me direct links to the models you are interested in.

In my past experience, Acer computers are sub-par for more resource intensive tasks, and seem to be aimed at a more budget crowd. I would never EVER trade affordability for performance if I had the option to. With bad knees and a bad back, I would pick an ASUS ROG series laptop to burden all day, every day if it meant I was getting a better performance laptop.

I have a similar gpu in my laptop, however have not tried GTA on it yet, and considering it is fairly heavy on the gpu, you could probably expect reasonable fps on med settings @ 1080p (no aa)

Well, first off, the $1550 model doesn't have dedicated graphics, from what I can find.

http://store.asus.com/us/item/201412AM130000005/A19581

For $50 less, you sacrifice a 100MHz downgrade on the processor, and gain a 970M 3GB dedicated video card. Yes, it is heavier, but it will also blow the snot out of the Acer VN7-591G-729V (the first model you linked, $1549.99). You also lose out on a 4k display, but you didn't have a video card to power the Acer anyways, so your processor would be doing work there as well on the iGPU side of things. Personally, the choice is clear for me. But I also don't care for 4k. I feel it is not necessary or even remotely practical for desktops, let alone laptops. Come at me.

EDIT: I should also note, I literally just clicked on an ASUS ROG laptop, checked the price, then specs, and gave my comparison/recommendation. Took me all but 5 minutes to find one I felt was better for very slightly cheaper.

The 860m isnt too far behind a desktop 660. The desktop 660 is of course faster, but the same settings that ran on the 660 would not yield unplayable fps on the 860m

hmm, what i saw at the store, it had a 860M, not confirmed 4gb(Kepler) or 2gb.(Maxwell)

ASUS ROG being 3.8 KG, cant see it being practical for train rides daily, esp 1.5 hrs standing.

The laptop in the first link you sent does not seem to have a gpu, in which case you might as well make a flip-book of gta and entertain yourself that way, cuzz there is no way it is running at any setting on the integrated graphics.

While the 4k display is nice, 1080p with a gpu would be a far superior experience.

Yeah, prolly a website error, went to look at it at the store physically, had a 860m 2gb or 4gb

I could prolly go with the 1080p model.

If it has an 860m, then its a steal, as 4k displays usually crop up on far more expensive laptops.

One perk of 4k is that you can downsample to 1080p in games and it wont look like crap (it will be a perfect 1:4 ratio)

So it happens i have to urgently get a Laptop in the Morning to be ready by the night to be able to use it for some unexpected event the next morning, 2AM GMT+8 now.

Wat?

If you want a laptop lickety split, then you want http://www.pro-star.com/index.php?r=product/configure&model=P650SE

And you can take the "rush build" option if you need it super soon.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Look at his preferences. He would prefer to stick with ASUS, MSI, Acer, or Lenovo.

Yeah, was thinking of that, though i think benefit would lie better in movie viewing.

I suggested it because that particular site isn't a Sager reseller for one, and two they have "next day shipping". But if you don't want a clevo, that's fine. I don't know your budget or anything else though. If you want a thin machine that isn't Clevo, I suggest the GS60 or GS70 from MSi

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
