Is It Time to Upgrade My SSD?

Guest

I have had an 240GB Sandisk Extreme SSD for a little over 2 years now. Should I look into upgrading it, to ensure that it doesn't fail and I lose my data?

You may want to, SSDs don't tend to die as quick as HDDs. What's your budget?

Well back at the tail end of 2012 was when RAM was super cheap and Newegg was offering crazy deals with free shipping so I picked up the Sandisk for $159.99. However considering how much they have come down, I'm looking to spend about the same.

I'm going away for college and I need to ensure that when I do, that I don't have sensitive documents on it, and it then crash leaving me completely S.O.L.

You should grab a 500gb samsung 850 evo, think it more of a capacity upgrade, and samsung's stuff is pretty reliable and robust.

I actually just saw that and my jaw dropped. To think that I could have gotten 500GB of NAND flash for only $189.99 is crazy.

I paid about 600 dollars for my 512gb 840 pro... I'm really salty that you can grab 500gb for less than 200 now.

Yup, the 850 evo is a really good drive. Samsung's software is also quite nice to use. I recently put the 250GB version of the 850 evo in my 2013 ultrabook, and it works like a charm.
