Would this be correct?

The temperature readings of my QX6850 are really annoying me, its being cooled by my Seidon 120V and its getting higher temp readings than my Xeon X5450 @ 3.2GHz, even though I can feel that the air coming out of it isn't as hot as it was from the Xeon. Everything is installed correctly, and the thermal paste is Z9, but are these readings correct? Because the difference between the temps of each core are significant:
post-155575-0-95764600-1429362179_thumb.

The main reason I'm asking this is because its making the stock fan run faster than it needs to, and as soon as you add anything in front of or behind the fan its louder than any of my previous desktops-even the HDD are quieter. (The Qcontrol profile is on silent BTW, and the motherboard does regulate the fans correctly-as  the speed of the fans automatically adjusts).

Yea, i normally see a 10ish c delta between cores. Maybe uneven thermal paste or some dried out. Also 510c cputin is funny :) you would feel that heat. Can you change fan speeds in bios? This might help lower how they ramp up.

I can change the fan profile, but its already at its lowest setting, and the thermal past was applied yesterday, I spread it with the spatula provided with it it it appeared to be even (it can't be worse than the moutherboards southbridge, I'd be surprised if even half of the chip had thermal paste on it originally).

If the post in this is to be believed, Intel was lazy and they are really 2xCore 2 Duo's on the same chip? With 1 die being binned lower?

I think you should be getting better temps then that

should be in the 30's..unless you got it overclocked

something tells me you either didn't tighten down the cooler enough...applied to much thermal paste...or you have a air pocket in your cooler....or its not working properly

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

Its only got a couple hundred MHz over stock, and the voltage is the same as stock.

oooo, dont spread it please, just a pea sized the throw on the cooler.

for thermal paste..you put approximatly the size of a pea on it

then spread it out evenly over the top of the cpu...its almost like you are painting the thermal paste on the top of the cpu...basically..a paper thin amount

That's what the instructions on the packet said to do so I did it.

That's what I was doing with it, and since I am using a water block its spread out even further.

strange, i have always. Heard. don't spread. Notsure what to do about fans, maybe a controller?

Even at low RPM its loud, which is BS. (I've tried my variable fan controller already). The main problem is the core temps making the fan run faster than it should, though apparently its to do with the way the CPU is designed.

I'm looking into them, but I am trying to save for a high capacity SSD.

lol, same here, gta loads so slow. Wait for them to drop the 3d nan flash stuff, it should drop prices.

I was thinking of the LS Force, 480GB and 960GB for that price? Heck yeah. (I'm using a 60GB version in my laptop-sub 10 sec total boot).

OK, I'm running it at a higher clock and HW monitor has frozen while realtemp continues to monitor, and again the temp differences between core 1/2 and 3/4 are large:

The only things that I could think of being wrong are:

  • bad TMI on 1 die
  • bad sensors

This is really bugging me as the air coming from the rad is definitely not that hot.

Redo the thermal paste, air bubbles may have formed, dont worry about how hot the air is coming from it, its not giving you a good idea of temperature.

I know, but at over 80oC I could feel the heat coming from my Xeon, I'll try re applying the thermal paste (if I've got enough of the good stuff) but if that fails I might resort to a de-lid. (Which if older CPU's are anything to go by, will help with temps greatly).
