SSD Y/N ?

moderategamer
Go to solution Solved by moderategamer,

I decided to take the plunge withh SSD on the basis of f**k it can't hurt any thanks for all the advice much appreciated.

So here's my dilema I've finally got round to purchasing windows and am in need of a secondry storage device to transfer all my files so's not to loose them. I only really have 320GB worth of data I need to save as I only got the rig about a week ago so I'm wondering do I go with a 1TB 3.5 drive or a 120gb SSD and just keep the files on my current 1TB drive.

So to sum up is it worth getting an SSD and loosing all that extra space or should I just go with the 1TB. Also if I go with the SSD will I be able to fully remove Windows files from the current drive without loosing/transferring my files?

I only really have 320GB worth of data I need to save as I only got the rig about a week ago so I'm wondering do I go with a 1TB 3.5 drive or a 250gb SSD and just keep the files on my current 1TB drive. Some of you will be thinking well 250GB isn't large enough to keep all my files and you'd be right fortunatley I have a bunch of smaller old drives lying about so I can store on them with a bit of organisational wizardry and some patients.

Both yes and not.

You can store your data on the ssd for the first time, if u're out of budget now, it's ok.

But it's better to have separate drives for data and OS. This will keep u much more faster and alive if some shit happens to the hdd.

Get an ssd you will have no regrets in doing it.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Get an SSD and put Windows on there, you'll see an increase in speed when going to start and things like that.

You could always get both :D or an SSHD (also known as hybrid) is an OK option. I've never used one before so I'm not sure if they're that good.

Here's a good SSHD: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate-internal-hard-drive-st1000dx001

Sorry I wasn't really thinking when I posted I was hoping no one would read it before I did my quick edit as I realised the wizardry part was irrelavant. thanks though.

Thanks yeah I've already got the Amazon one sitting in my basket :)

Really I've heard the difference is supposed to be quite noticable?

It IS quite noticeable. If you install your OS (windows) on your SSD you'll immediately see it run smoother and faster overall. you should also put large applications on there that take a while to load up normally. you may find they will also run faster.
