i7 4790k w/ R9 290 vs. i5 4690K w/ GTX 970

Which would be better for gaming? I currently have a 1080p monitor but i'm planning to get a 1440p monitor.

1080p-1440p Gaming+Insane Productivity:

Note:

GTX-970 is a good option over the 290x, but the right 290x will outperform any 970 for around the same cost. It's preferential in the end.

GTX-980 will perform better than the 290x at 1440p, but both cards do the job very well.

4690k & GTX 970 for graphically intensive applications (games mostly)

4790k & r9 290 for applications that rely heavily on the CPU (video editing, rendering, etc.)

Live streaming can meet somewhere in the middle depending on your encoder, but the CPU is almost always more important for that.

5800x | Asus x570 Pro Wifi (barely enough for 64GB apparently given it's 2133 and still crashes sometimes) | 64GB DDR4 | 3070 Ti 8GB | Love that whole weeb shit
