jdmilion

so today my internet was upgraded, but my steam download speed is still only around 400kbps????

My speedtest says 3.5-4mbps (im supposed to be getting 15mbps according to AT&T and what im paying for) so why is my steam download speed still only 400kbps? Thats what it was before pretty much? I upgraded to their U-Verse

Steam will only download as fast as your connection to the servers allow, its not directly indicative of your own internet speeds

Edit.. you may want to fix your typo before everyone shits bricks thinking your pulling 400mbps when im sure you meant kbps...

hook your modem directly up to your pc

with ethernet and do a speed test..then we can rule out a few possiblities

steam use Byte not bit to measure

400kbps about 80KB/s

f23248d1b7.jpg

try to change server download, choose the closest to your area, if that didn't work I usually pick the country that didn't have much steam user (like some country on asia, eu, africa)

it's longer to route, but with less congested traffic I can max it in few minutes.

So is this any good?

How fast is this in megabytes and gigabytes?

Its now almost 400KB/S on steam.

my internet is 6mbps, and now it's daytime, there's another user using internet so I didn't get fullspeed

since your speedtest around 3-4mbps, 400KB is about right.

are you using wireless ?

What u have to remember Steam is basically a P2P connection and therefore a lot of users use this at once which will have an affect on everyone who is using it because the traffic overload.

How old is the router? If you have a super old one then that could be the issue, some are capped at 1/mb, 10/mb and so on.

Or maybe it's the cable? Or both? Network is not my strong side but hey, I'm just throwing out possiblities.

Is suggest download something elsewhere, and se how fast that goes, like a free game from origin.
