Is XFX a good brand?

cheeze_tartz

I'm currently looking at an XFX R9 280x Double Dissipation GPU and it's only $190. Will it deliver good performance without being too loud?

XFX are a very good brand, as brands go. But I wouldn't stick to a brand when shopping for graphics cards as different manufacturers' cards will have different strengths but always go for what is best at the price, not a particular brand.

I personally have an XFX R9 290. They are a great brand but sometimes their RMA service isn't great.

I had an XFX card, it was okay. For graphics cards I would consider them an average brand. For power supplies they're a really good brand.

Please don't buy XFX, get something from Gigabyte/Sapphire/ASUS instead.

What? Please explain yourself.

I personally have that same card, it's amazing. It get's a tad loud when under full load, but it stays at 60c, so I imagine if you set a custom fan curve it would be a lot better, but I've yet to do that. It also overclocks pretty good, I got mine up to 1100mhz, but I felt that was a bit much and seeing how bad of a bottleneck my CPU is, it was unneeded. Anyways, the built quality is good, the heatsink design is amazing, and overall it is a great card, do recommend.

They are pretty great.

On some regions their customer support sucks, but for me it was way easier than with Asus.

They GPUs used to be kinda meh, specially the old core series they had for HD6000 and HD7000 series. I had both used R9 280X and R9 290X from them and those cards easily rivalled other brands.

On the PSU side they use all seasonic oem units, so they are top notch.

With XFX you're more likely to have a louder, hotter, and unstable card than with pretty much every other brand. Go look at NewEgg and Amazon reviews for yourself, ignoring the people that don't know what a graphics card even is.

They are, it's just scrubs tend to over hype other brands like EVGA and Sapphire who are good in there own way but not totally void of criticism.

When was the last time you actually owned and used an XFX graphics card? The DD cooler is amazing, though I had an XFX 5770 that got to around 90c and sounded like a jet engine, so I can relate to what you're saying. But their new cards are perfect in almost every way.

XFX as a company is pretty decent.

I'm hearing mixed opinions on the coolers though, just glancing through the thread I've noticed this. I know their coolers were trash with the 7000 series though.

Personally I'd go for something a bit more premium from Asus, MSI or Sapphire. Gigabyte is also good but I'm not a fan of their stuff.

PowerColor is also a nice budget option but their parts generally feel pretty cheap, though XFX skimps on parts to accommodate the warranty, if they (powercolor that is) have the cheapest card then it's a good choice, if it costs the same or more than something from a bigger brand (like previous examples but excluding XFX) then don't bother with them.

I've owned a XFX HD 5850 in the past -- fantastic.

Their "Ghost Thermal" technology cooler that they introduced with the HD 7000 series was complete junk -- can't even keep a lower power HD 7770 cool. It looks like the newer "Double Dissipation" cooler does a decent job, though.

I've used Sapphire for over a decade now (non-HD series ATi / AMD Graphics Cards), and I haven't had an problems with them so far.

Xfx is really the only brand of card I buy. I like to stick to certain brands when I haven't experienced any problems with them.

Great performance from all of the card I've had, and they all still work great, aside from the HD5570 that I had put off cleaning, then the fan jammed up with cat hair.. Lol

Aside from that, I've noticed their cards are usually cheaper, and they work great! I've had no problems outside of the one I caused myself. Whenever I order cards for systems I'm building, if the price is similar to the other brands, I choose xfx to throw in the system

I've owned and used a couple XFX cards for the past three years almost. So I'm quite familiar with them.

I have had a good time with XFX. I've only had one of their cards (my only Radeon ever) and it overclocked like a pro. My XFX HD 6750 was great, until the fan died. I ghetto modded it with an old 92mm case fan and used it until my gtx 260 decided to work one day. Still have it, and it still works well.

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

yea, well many people apparently already had a problem with a certain brands product, but in most cases its just bad luck, e.g. i had a sapphire mobo and the pc was extremely slow windows just freezed when i was playing sometimes and games ran at 1-5fps, i actually tested it with two cpus (the 2nd had better specs) and still the same problem, then I replace the mobo with a dirt cheap Athlon 760K and asus a88xm-a and it works fine now
