Choosing a Graphics Card

Dan2000

I need help choosing a graphics card, I don't know which one to get, the  MSI GTX 970 or the Asus GTX 970. Please tell me if you recommend any other cards as well. I'm planning to be playing mostly Battlefield at Ultra and 1080p. Thanks.

They're pretty much the same.

Both have 0db idle mode, and are both fully capably 970's.

Get the one which fits you color scheme the best.

When in doubt: C4

Out of the two, I'd go with the MSI. However, the G1 Gaming is the card I would recommend. :)

Asus has coil whine/ bad overclocking

I picked one up when I was waiting for my second EVGA one and the Asus one overclocked like a mother and was quiet. If I didn't already have a single EVGA and another EVGA on the way I would have gone with Asus

Look. Lets make it simple for you. Just match it with your motherboard. :)

gtx 980 is not worth the money comparing to gtx 970 while being only 10-20% more powerful. You gonna get lots more from gtx 970 sli for only little more.

Asus has coil whine/ bad overclocking

Mine doesn't have any noticeable whine if any and my setup is nearly silent. Overclocking further in my opinion is not necessary and only a bonus. Most cards you can push the overclock further fairly easy, but some will be poor and some will be very good as usual. Get one that matches your setup if that matters to you and whether or not silence matters to you as well. If you're an overclocking junky then get the G1 Gaming as it has better power delivery, but don't expect to get record breaking results as you may not.

I went with Asus because I liked the previous card I had with DirectCU II and bought it at a great price anyway. If I had to choose again based on current prices, I would go with the G1 Gaming, but I don't like the look of it. Then again, why would I need to look at it. So, pros and cons with any card, but any 970 is more than capable.

Mines at factory stock overclocks. 1080p on Ultra with 2x MSAA and MFAA enable , BF4 runs smoooooooooth. I can put 4x MSAA, but some maps with heavy particle effects tend to drop the frames down to a noticeable level, but still more than capable to play with.

Asus has coil whine/ bad overclocking

These sorts of issues aren't brand specific.

No matter how much manufacturers want to talk about their coil whine reduction chokes or whatever.
