Is this a good phone?

xnoobftw

Hey guys... I had my samsung s3 for the past 2 years and it is nearing the end of it's days (the charging port is absolute shit and it is basically time for an upgrade anyways)

How is this phone http://www.mi.com/sg/redmi2/specs/which cost 169SGD (without contract)?

Or should i get this http://www.mi.com/sg/note4g/#paramfor 229SGD? (without contract too)

Personally i think those phones are extremely good for it's value

I wanna hear your guy's opinions :)

They are good for the money, but have you considered a zenfone 2? It's a bit cheaper than the note 4g and should be faster.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I have never heard of this Redmi company

Any other good phones you guys would recommend? With the best bang for the buck in mind!

What carrier and plan? My sister got a new phone from M1 just a few days ago. Cost her $0

Im buying the phone itself! I sold my iphone 6+ to some china people (with plan of course) making me earn like 500$ but i have to renew my plan... Now that my s3 is turning into shit idk what to get so i looked at this.... My mom is changing contract soon and she is giving me her new phone so you got any recommendation? Errrr the data bundle with 2gb (combo plan 2) from singtel! Preferably less than 200$ with contract. Im currently using my sister in laws xiaomi 1s and it is laggy while using twitter so..... yeah D: What is the diff from redmi 1s and redmi 2?

Redmi is the name of the line of phones. Xiaomi makes the phones. They're huge over in Asia and they're the 3rd largest phone manufacturer in the world, behind Apple and Samsung.

If you can, get the Redmi Note 4G. It's better in every way possible when compared to the Redmi 2.

Well here are your options.. prices are with your contract.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 - $0

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G - $48

Samsung Galaxy A3 - $98

LG G3 Beat/S - $68

The LG G3 Beat is the oldest phone with the slightly lower performing Snapdragon 400 chipset. But it has the largest screen area and good battery capacity 2540 mAh. The Redmi Note 4G is also on the same chipset, but has a beefier processor, 2GB of RAM and 3100 mAh battery (its a phablet duh). The Galaxy A3 has the weakest battery (1900 mAh) and the lowest screen resolution, but with the same new chipset and processor as the Redmi 2, it should have the smoothest performance. As the only phone with Gorilla Glass 4 it appears to have the best construction quality. The Redmi 2 is the newest phone and seems to be the jack of all trades specs wise.

No clear winner here. I suggest taking a look at those links and pick the one that meets your criteria.

Hmmmm i"'ll be using my phone mainly just for social network and music only~ my budget can strech to 200sgd with contract so you got any other recommendation which is of higher end of the spectrum in terms of performance and battery life? Sorry for the trouble D:

Other than the battery and size I don't really see a big difference tho... But there is an increase in price from 169sgd (redmi2) to 220sgd

Yes, it does have a much larger battery and screen, along with double the RAM, and a better camera. The Redmi 2 just a newer CPU, but the differences between the Snapdragon 410 and 400 is minimal, plus the 400 is clocked higher on the Redmi Note 4G.

Those are after-contract prices I listed. Discounted by Singtel for your mother's combo 2 plan.

Phones will obviously cost a lot more off contract. Unfortunately those are the only viable ones offered by Singtel that fit your budget.

If you've narrowed down on the Redmi 2 and Note 4G, then you just have to decide if you want a phablet or regular sized phone. Obviously the phablet is going to perform better, but both of them actually have the same screen resolution. I've never bought a Chinese brand phone so I don't know about the construction quality.

Do you think that the note is an upgrade from S3? On the redmi 1s I experience a lot of stutter while using twitter only eh~

Any of those phones will outperform your old S3. But even the fastest phone today can slow to a crawl if you leave junk installed and running in the backgound.

Manufacturers and carriers like to add their own junk apps and then make it difficult for you to remove them. Samsung is particularly notorious for this.

If you want to have your phone perform at its absolute best, you're going to have to install a custom rom, root and manage it like you would with a computer.

I have a late model S4 LTE+ and with custom CM12 rom it benchmarks faster than the S5. Only install a custom rom if you know what you're doing. The process is not the same for every phone, and is usually confusing and elaborate. Doing something wrong could mean bricking the phone.

Does it outperform my s3 by a lot? I'm actually on the fence of whether to buy the note 4g or to repair my s3...(if it is repairable)

How much faster I don't know. All of those new phones are by no means a flagship-class device. They were never made to be.

But one thing is for certain, that you will have a better experience with a newer phone.

If you take the S3 for repairs they will most certainly suggest getting a new phone instead.

I've tried every method there is online already and it doesn't work.... Do you think it is impossible? :o

If its just the charging port that needs replacing, it can be done. But you'll want a professional to do it.

But will it be expensive? Hmmm do you think I should go with the upgrade route or repair route?

Well you can go to a phone repair shop and ask for a quote. If it doesn't cost a lot, get it repaired. And then just wait till your mother recontracts so you can have a cheap/free new phone. Be sure to look out for Singtel's phone promotions in the newspapers.

I am currently using a redmi 1s now! Still need me to repair? :o
