Can I get a router recommendation?

Lanciferp

My family needs a new router. My dad is a particularly loyal fan of apple,so we've been using apples ac router/time capsule, and it hasn't been cutting it. We have many things on the network at all time, which I think is the main problem, but let me just lay it out.

- We have over 7+ devices on the network most of the time, and often more (4 laptops, 6 phones, an iMac, apple tv, etc) which seems to be the main issue.

- Our internet is pretty fast, 50 mbs

- My family assumes I am a god of tech, as I'm sure many of yours do/did, so its up to me to find a new one.

Sadly I know next to nothing about routers, and don't quite know where to look for one beefy enough to take all that we ask of it, so Im thinking maybe trip band? I dunno. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask. Thank you all in advance.

budget?

We spent $300 on the current one, so that, but if there is something that would solve all the problems for more, then Im sure they'd stretch.

I would get an ASUS router like this one http://www.amazon.com/RT-AC66U-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC1750-Gigabit-Router/dp/B008ABOJKS/ref=dp_ob_title_ce, or something similar from a different brand.

Current Desktop Build | 2200G | RX 580 4GB | 8GB RAM | CTRL | Logitech G Pro Wireless

Laptop | 2018 MBA 256/16GB | MX Master

I raise you an Asus AC68U, dual core instead of single core.

If you are willing to spend $300 than +1 for the Asus AC3200, the current flagship AC router.

I bought an ASUS RT-AC87U last August (2014) when they literally hit retail. It was good but had a few issues, now with the latest firmware it seems to be awesome so far. I definitely stress it to the maximum; extremely large and complex LAN (lots of switches, link aggregation, extenders and tones of devices of all types) and very demanding throughput on both wired and wireless (both bands).

All of that said I would have gotten the RT-AC3200 if it had been available at the time as a preference but as the situation was at the time I needed a meaty solution ASAP.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

The Netgear Nighthawk series is work well. I have only caused it to overload the network once and the config is about 20 devices almost always connected, for your info the time it was brought down was streaming from an ipad to a sonos, my brother playing on the PS4 Me sending large amount of data through it as well as printing and streaming my sister doing something and the person I was sending the files to streaming) so it can handle a lot and it is very easy to restart when it does go down.

The most easy to use and fastest router you can get, without having to flash Firmware and Stuff like that is an AVM FritzBox.

These are very versitale Routers with a lot of features like Guest WLAN, DECT Telephone, NAS shareing of an USB HDD, external VPN Access to your network.

And this one is compatible to MAC, Linux and Windows
