Experiences with non-techies

My chemistry teacher took 45 minutes of our 1 hour class to plug her laptop into the TV and play a 5 minute YouTube video.

Why?

imagine every issue possible.

and then add stubbornness and constantly staring over and asking if we can plug her "New iphone 7" into the tv so she could do it that way.

She lies a bunch to sound smart.

At one point we stopped helping her. Why? Because fuck chemistry.

My Chem teacher has his smartboard hooked up to his laptop in a dual screen scenario. I was literally the only one in my class that could use it without any sort of effort when we had to do presentations.

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

Only Abate, Axe, and Wobbles can save us.

Just got reminded of something I had to deal with a couple of weeks ago I think.

[Tech support]

One of our clients are in the same building as us. We get a call that people aren't able to connect the TV in one of the meeting rooms to their laptops. There's actually a computer bolted to the back of the TV so I was confused why people were connecting their laptops to it. Well, regardless, I head down, hook up a laptop I bring with me, change the settings on said laptop into dual screen mode.

Works. No issues.

I call in the girl that reported the issue and show her and she was like "How did you do that?". I proceeded to show her how I did that.

"But we never had to do that before."

He's not wrong if they aren't paying for sky. Freesat has different channels to freeview. They would need several paid for packs on sky for the same channels as freeview.

Just happened today!

I was using Kahoots today and my teacher wanted the Names for identifying who is who while quizzing. So I got out some UniCode and entered my name Upside Down. My teacher and classmates though I was hacking Kahoots!

Because he had a hard drive.

My Research Writing teacher didn't understand why mechanical drives are so slow and that solid state drives are significantly faster. On the bright side, though, I learned that most of my remaining classmates in said class are system builders.

My Spanish teacher had a problem with her computer today. She instantly telephoned the IT guy and implied a dire emergency, then called me up for assistance. It turned out she had the monitor on the wrong input.

we needed to write an essay in word at school, so when everybody was done, the teacher gave us USB sticks to put it onto.

i was done, already had the stick in my pocket ready to leave the class, when 15 from 18 kids ALL ASKED ME how to put the FILE ON A USB STICK!!!!!!

So there i was spending 10 minutes on 15 usb sticks and needing to explain it several times...

finally i can get out of the class. and guess what my teacher said:

Its so cool you know how to do that!! Thanks!! i know you're very intelligent in computers.

Also once my neighbor came to me to "fix" her Laptop. It was a XP laptop that was loaded with all kind of crapy bloatware, toolbars and all the stuff you guys can imagine.

I told her the easiest thing to do would be to re install the OS by reformatting the HDD. So I "sniffed" through her documents to make sure that there are no important docuemtns, files, music or other stuff lying around before I process to reformat the drive. Note: The Laptop actually belonged to her husband. I found folders full of porn videos and in his email (I went through them with her, to check if anything needs to be backed up) were full of dating site mails and notifications.

Well long story short: They got divorced shortly after that because I found all that stuff on the laptop of her ex-husband and she found out about his affairs that way...

That went bad fast

Anyway, one time in english class my teacher went out for a bit after turning the computer on. So, I did what any student would do. I downloaded a bluescreen wallapaper, put it up, ended explorer.exe, and VOILA, his face was priceless as he tumbled about pressing anything before restarting the PC.

Note: All of my former high school's PCs had DeepFreeze on, so he didn't suspect anything. Perfect crime

I can get that old people have problems with technology. It's easy for us because most of us we're exposed to technology from a young age. But class full of I assume young people that don't know how to use usb stick ? Like really ? That has to be some kind of IT hell. :D

And another one i remembered

True story

I have a friend, genius, IQ of 155, grades above 90, awesome at playing he piano, the textbook stereotypical asian kid.

He asked me 2 questions in succession.

1. Can your CD/usb get viruses if you don't cover it up?

2. Can you move files by rubbing usb sticks together?

He was dead serious

Well with NFC you can move files from one device to another by bringing them very near each other (basically touching them) so maybe he just predicted the future. :P (I still have to get around to trying NFC! Even though I've had my S4 for over a year I have yet to use NFC. I know it's shameful... )

What does this even mean?

Pretty much the same as believing that you can get your PC infected with viruses by sneezing on any part of it...

So there was a student in one of my classes today who asked how to send a document with outlook (our teacher has us turn most of our stuff in via email) As it turns out, not only did he not have a Microsoft account which makes it pretty difficult to use outlook, but he also didn't even know how to attach documents to an email. It makes me wonder what he's been doing the last 3 and a half years...

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).
