Try using a monitor and plug your tv into an available HDMI port. I'm using a Asus PB278Q, which is connected to my pc, cable, and ps3.

Dont get a tv for gaming its not as fast use a monitor, unless you wanna use it as a living room tv or something. This has a hdmi input but you can also buy a cox cable to hdmi. It what I do. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8128190&SRCCODE=WEBGOOPA&scid=scplp704957&gclid=Cj0KEQjwmLipBRC59O_EqJ_E0asBEiQATYdNhwGaoJs81SkLXTmVOSvse1Jkn_I1uxOcxqYAsE90Zt0aAuv-8P8HAQ

Also how much real difference is there between a monitor and Tv monitor for casual gaming and in my budget?

Also nearly all monitors in my budget have the same response time (5ms) and even worse (7ms)

The one I showed you was 1 ms and was in you're budget, your budget is 224 USD and thats just about with shipping. Yes you get a remote if you buy the hdmi to coax. http://www.amazon.com/Mediasonic-HW180STB-HomeWorx-Converter-Recording/dp/B00IYETYX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429494376&sr=8-1&keywords=homeworx+hw180stb

Ok, but do they ship to the UK because that same one on Amazon.co.uk is over £100?

Yeah I have no clue about that but there are alternatives like you said. Well I guess this is resolved. ;)
