Would anyone know if the MSI H97 Gaming 3 motherboard supports dual EVGA GTX 980s in a crossfire configuration?

no it doesnt

1. its has only one PCI-E x16/x8 slot

2. Nvidia cards have SLI not crossfire

nop CorssFire is AMD technology

 

you should be looking at SLi

 

and only Z97 supports SLI but you will need to pick the Z97 Gaming 5

 

or the cheaper Z97 SLI Krait

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
