Where do you find content for 4K ?

kenjigreat

I'm planning on getting a 4K Display but the internet seems to lack any content for it.

Movies , Video Game Trailers , Etc?

Does anyone know any good sources of enjoyable 4k content.

Few Youtube channels are uploading in 4k. Support will grow as these monitors slowly become more mainstream. So just wait and more content will be available.

That's not supposed to do that....

YouTube has 4K now and some channels upload in 4K.

Including LinusTechTips and MKBHD. Sometimes you have game companies upload 4K trailers too, but now they are all doing it in 1080p60fps (but 4K60fps is coming though :P )

Other than Youtube, almost no one, 4k is still not mainstream and it won't be for 2 more years for sure. So until it's mainstream, until there is some way to compress it further to lower the amount of data it takes, it will be rare.

The quality doesn't justify the price, storage, processing power and bandwidth needed. :)

I think your overestimating how quickly 4k will become mainstream..

I wouldn't say 4k will become mainstream for like 7-10 years

4k is just to bandwidth intensive

I agree, but they are already pushing 5k and 8k, phone screens are hitting 4k (for no good reason honestly). I hope they don't push it, because most of the globe doesn't have a decent internet connection to stream 1080p decently, let alone 4k. Also 4k takes quite a bit of processing power, my i5 doesn't break a sweat but I've seen quad cores struggle (Phenoms).

So what needs to happen? Some new codec or compression method to compress 4k to be transferred easily and decent CPU's that can process it or on board GPU's that can handle it easily. :)

Was some video on NCIX about a new compression method that'll make it possible (supposedly) to watch 3 simultaneous 4k streams on current speeds. I think he mentioned what speed was needed for that but I don't remember it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Netflix does not have 4k for PC, neither does amazon. They are wall-gardening that content.

If movies were available in 4K, I don't think many people would have much problem buying a 4K panel. Or at least I wouldn't :D

You wont be seeing any 4k movie content for quite some time as it's going to put cinemas out of business so there trying to hold of for as long as possible.
