What's difference in performance between generations of intel cpus

What's the difference in performance as you go up each generation. Say the performance difference between intel core i7 920 and say the intel core i7 4770.

As LTT just did a video on it... it's about 10% more per generation jump for equivalent chips.

The projects never end in my line of work.

Depends on the program and how you are using it.

Performance isnt always measured by FPS, its also performance vs power usage etc. As newer chips come out, they usually have at least similr performance, but at a lower price and less power usage.

You best bet is to look up XXXX application on XXX cpu, see the performance, and then look up XXXX on XXXX new cpu and see how they differ. Especially when comparing multiplegeneration gaps, its hard to find a direct comparison.

10-15% on intel CPU's. Mostly from updated instruction sets on the next generation processor.
