My new $1000 AUD Video editing/gaming pc

YT2002

Today I built a pc to replace my Toshiba Satellite L750 which had a sandy bridge mobile i5 and gt 525m and 4GB of ram. Now i have a machine that is great for gaming and editing. This was my firs time building. Here are the specs

AMD FX 8320. It was in my budget, can OC (will do later once I get an aftermarket CPU cooler), has 8 cores for $199. I havent got it yet actually, the store was oiut of stock. Will get on tuesday after easter.

ASUS Geforce GTX 960 Strix, quiet, power efficient, and a 1080P delight, it fitted my budget and looks great. GOt it for $297

MSI 970A-G43, AM3+, fits my budget, has nice front panel connector location (there was and asrock board that didnt for the same price), and looks nice.

2x4GB Kingston Hyper X fury memory. Got it because well, its memory and this was cheap.

Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB. My dad was going to put this in his laptop but he couldnt quite work it out so using it for my pc.

WD Blue 1TB. Not much to say.

NZXT S340. Looks great, cable management is simple, and has a nice psu shroud.

Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W White. Got a good deal for it and it has 0 RPM mode and 80Plus Gold

TP LInk Archer T2U 802.11ac dongle. Can't use ethernet so have to use wifi.

What do you think. PLease let me know

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

Do not overclock that cpu with that motherboard. It will just burnout the motherboard.

I second this I've used that motherboard with an FX 6350 and I couldn't get past 4.2 GHz which was its turbo speed. Everything else is good in your build apart from the mobo.

that motherboard burns my eyes

It'll burn a lot more than that if he overclocks. No VRM cooling at all.

I've seen someone get that cpu to 4.5Ghz on this mobo

Would I be able to get a decent oc if I had a liquid cooler?

nice build man like the others of said i wouldn't overclock to heavy on the mobo due to the lack of sufficient vrm cooling on the mobo itself not the cpu. Which brings me to the point on why i dislike AMD's platform model, u can get, price / performance a great chip that is hindered by the lack of good mobo to fully utilize them and they refuse to upgrade from a platform that was made on Intel 775 or 1366 one of the two lol /end rant

I wasnt planning to do a heavy oc anyways, maybe light to mid oc. Will have a look at OC genie to see how to get the best results once i get a aftermarket cooler. I do wish AMD had a newer architecture.

Burns as in my flash or no VRM heatsinks

That would only make things worse. It's the motherboard cooling that is the issue. Do not overclock at all. I don't even expect the board to last that long at stock clocks with an 8 core.

Ive seen someone say that they got decent temps on a 8350. Ill probably just get a seidon 120v to keep things cool. Maybe ill get a new mobo at the same time

What they are say is the motherboard's VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) is flimsy.  It CANNOT handle the required current that FX 8-core CPU will want.

All the CPU cooling in the world will not help.

Don't get me wrong... investigate the VRM issue.  Just don't push that CPU until you have researched.

On the manual it says it has Premium Alloy Chokes. Does that make a difference in OCing. It says it can deliver up to 30% higher power.

ASRock has a motherboard that has a similar layout (4+1 phase power delivery) and they only allow certain 8 core CPUs with a downdraft cooler. Some of them had temperature stability issues without overclocks. I have to stress again that that was a different mainboard from yours.

If you get a big downdraft cooler like the Noctua NH-C14 or something beefy you might be able to get some overclock in. But I have to agree with the poster before me: Do some research and search for some people with the same CPU and mobo combinaiton. It is way cheaper to learn from other peoples mistakes.

Yeah I see what you mean. I think in the end ill push it to at most 4.2Ghz. It's already quite good at 4GHz. Thanks for the feedback.
