Quick question about overclocking GPU

2FA

I tried to overclock my 980 earlier and no matter what I did, it would not be a stable overclock. I tried only adding only 100MHz but that was unstable, and then here comes the weird thing. For some reason after trying that, every application that I opened that uses DX11 would crash almost instantly. I proceeded to reinstall the drivers and haven't had a crash since and I have yet to try overclocking it again. Do you think having a bad driver install, or for some reason weakened drivers, could affect overclocking stability?

Did you increase the voltage?

I raised the power limit to 120% and I did increase the voltage a tad bit. I did this before with my 290 so I know the standard procedure.

Try with voltage/power limit, otherwise it means that it's only an unlucky chip... Happens, i surely know it... (4770k 4.1Ghz 1.265v, just wot D:)

I just tried it again and not even a hint of instability. I'm thinking the original drivers had a slightly botched install or something.

Actually I lied, it crushed the driver again. 100MHz is the max I can get it stable on  the core.
