Take copy of windows 8 and move to a different PC

Badger1661

So I am planning on building a PC and obviously need Windows for it. My question is there anyway in which I can take my copy of windows that came with my laptop and put it on the PC I want to build?

Thanks for taking the time to read/respond to this.

You can make an ISO of your current installation, put it on a disc and boot from it. It's cheap, but it isn't reccomended. Worst case scenario it'll take you on an endless boot loop (experience).

You could clone the drive or make an iso, etc, but there's not a gurantee that it'll work well as OEM licenses lock to the mobo (There will be a drastic hardware change as well that could cause problems down the road.)

You can get a really cheap Windows license over at https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap/

Its likely oem so one copy per liscense sometimes you can have luck calling microsoft and telling them you upgraded the pc it was in (especially the motherboard) but tell them you upgraded some other components as well it just depends on who you get on the phone i have had it work though.

Get Media Here

Then install using key from laptop (either on sticker or registry). You will need to call in to register, and best not to use it on the laptop anymore.

You can also get an ultra cheap copy from G2A.

How does this work? Is this like using MDT tools?
