3x Asus Rog Swift PG278Q on 2x GTX 980 G1 Gaming (SLI Surround)

mjk79

Hey All,

I've done some research on this but I wasn't able to find any other posts that fit my specific use case, so I'm posting to ask your opinions for my specific setup.

I am an FPS/Simulator gamer, and I'd really like to get the best of both worlds if i can. I'm currently running 2x GTX980 Gigabyte G1 Gaming cards in SLI. I'd really like to get 3x Asus Rog swift monitors, but I'm not sure if my two 980's will be able to handle 3 of those screens in surround. I use my PC for work and productivity as well so having 3 screens is really a must. I've been using multi monitors for ages, but never in surround as they are different sizes and its a messy mishmash.

So the question is, will 2x 980's in SLI be able to handle 3x 1440p Asus Rog swift screens?

If not, i'm prepared to drop down to a 1080p surround setup, but i'd prefer the 1440p monitors.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

not even close maxed out. You need a flux capacitor to run that set up at a good frame rate.

Also I wouldn't buy the Swift, it's a shitty 8-bit TN panel. Go with the Acer XB270HU (IPS, 144hz, 1440p, G-Sync)

3 of those is 30% more pixels than 4k. I also asked this but I dont think it would work.

I'm running 3xROG swift with 2xTitan X. I haven't yet benched surround with Unigine Valley or Heaven...only 3DMark. If I get time later today, I'll run some benchmarks and post them. I currently only play World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, and World of Warships (closed beta). I know, everyone's going to laugh at that. So far I'm getting from ~mid 40's - 110's FPS in these games (although warships does not have SLI support yet).

do you have BF4? would love to hear some fps numbers with those

I'm running 3 ROG Swifts as well. With 3 (original) Titans and I'm debating getting a 4th (used ones popping up like crazy for obvious reasons) or going 2 Titan X's. Your experience would be greatly appreciated in helping the decision

No BF4, but I've been thinking about buying it. If I do, I'll let you know.

Glad I found this thread! Got my Swift yesterday after thinking about getting a triple monitor setup, and I'm going for G1 GTX 970 SLI! Guess that idea is out of the picture! Though I'm thinking about getting a second one just for the sake of having 2 of the same model. I have the Asus VG248QE as secondary, a monitor which actually serves its purpose flawlessly, might be stupid to change unless I really have to.

Why not go ultra-wide(21:9)? That's more best of both worlds.

I tried the 3 monitor set-up. I know it sounds cool and awesome it just isn't and I found myself rarely setting up surround. The side to monitors get image stretching and compatibility wasn't great.

I actuall really love it! I have to re-train myself to look toward the peripheral monitors! I think it is an awesome experience! Now, is it worth the money??? Eh...

For over 5grand in monitors and gpus alone to push it right...guess depends how much disposable income you have. But I would say no.

if you don't mind me asking, how do you have your titan x's connected to your monitors? I'm having some trouble getting 7560x1440 in surround.
