Anybody have trouble with Kailh Switches?

Tim Drake

So of course there was a big thing about Kailh switches sucking but really do they suck?

Yes of course they aren't as high quality as Cherry MX but are they BAD?

I think it gets hate because it's a copycat switch but tbh, I think it deserves it.

i may be one of the least knowledgeable people when it comes to keyboards. It was still leaps a head of a membrane keyboard. The price is what kills me. What did you not like about them?

I never said I didn't?

I meant I think it deserves the right to be a copycat is what I meant.

The experience itself is not bad.. its virtually identical to Cherry's. The only reason I hate them is because their quality is horrendous. I had a Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 break on me 3 times

Razer use a Khailh variant called "Razer" keys so I wouldn't blame Khailh..

Kailh is the one manufacturing it though...

I heard of problems with Razer having jiggly switches yet the keyboard i'm looking at (Khailh switches too) does not have that problem.

Found a quote from a member of the forums

Actually, on the Razer Blackwidow it's not 100% Kailh switches.

As Razer does claim, they design the keys which is based on Kailh switch (which I guess, it's fair to say they are Kailh switches but I tend to say modified Kailh) but I heard the manufacturing of the switches was done by multiple manufacturers, not Kailh alone which I think a lot more fair to say they are "Razer" switches rather than Kailh. If the switches failed early, I can't blame Kailh if the switches was not manufactured by them.

He also said the switches aren't bad in his Poseidon Z review.

That's the one where the switch was cracked

If you get what I mean by this - they feel more cheap/plasticky. Hard to explain but a Blackwidow's Razer Greens feel cheaper to me than MX Greens or Blues.

They don't suck, they are good, and sometimes use better stabilizers than Cherry keys.

An example, the Tesoro Lobera Supreme uses Kailh Brown switches, which are really nice and fluid, I just didn't like the brown switches.  The stabilizers in this keyboard are costar, which are a heck of a lot better than the cherry stabilizers in my Ducky Shine Legend with Cherry switches.

They're decent, just inconsistent and a bit more unreliable compared to Cherries.

Although cherries do have 'bad' switches get past their QA from time to time, but they ARE more durable and a cherry switch will last for ages.

I even had a Cherry MX Green that had a VERY weak click, and no click at all when pressed on the right side of it.  A month of spamming the Q key in various games, and suddenly the Q actually clicks BETTER and MORE consistently than any other key on the keyboard, with a perfectly smooth even click when pressed on top (usually top side is the weak point of the click) and bottom, and now pressing it on the right side clicks just as well as on the left.

Now the "Razer" switches that have the production outsourced...they can be even worse than Kaihua switches...
