First-time desktop build

Go to solution Solved by Demons Wrath,

Yep I know that I can't have cf but it's enough for me.

I like the big window in 450d and yes, 230t is slightly cheaper, about 30$, can you tell me 230t is better?

And luckily, I found a place that sell lots of Crucial products.

I'd choose the 230T because it's a nice looking case. The airflow is far superior to the 450D, both out of the box and if you add more fans. And as you said it's cheaper. I'd definately recommend it over the 450D. I'm just imagining your R9 290x in the middle of a Vietnamese summer, you're going to want some excellent cooling to tame that beast.

If you can get a nice Crucial SSD then you should do so, they're good. Whichever is the cheapest MX100/BX100/M550/MX200 at 120gb should be the one you choose. Although I'd recommend 240gb. If they're too expensive then it's not necessary, only desirable.

Hi everyone, I'm planning to build a case for myself.  :D

I have spend lots of time watching many reviews, videos

I'm a first-year student and planning to be a mobile app developer.
I play game sometime b.cus I don't have much time  :(
My 2 fav games are Lol and Csgo.
And here's it:

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($241.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI H97 GAMING 3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($105.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($99.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290X 4GB Tri-X Video Card  ($319.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case  ($97.99 @ Newegg)
Monitor: Dell P2314H 60Hz 23.0" Monitor  ($169.99 @ Best Buy)
Mouse: Razer DeathAdder 2013 Wired Optical Mouse  ($62.98 @ Amazon)
Total: $1302.43

Are there any components issues?
Is this a good machine for money?
Tks for reading

Hi Demons Wrath, I'm from Vietnam, which country doesn't have much choice and little pricey.

Ur suggestions about main, ram, ssd,psu and monitor are unavailable

Why u prefer Seagate to WD? I have heard that WD is little bit reliable than.

You should have told us you were from Vietnam from the beginning, would have been easier. What you need to do is try to spec a PC from any Vietnamese sites you know of, then put all your choices in a pcpartpicker link, and look for any issues. You can post the list here if you're having problems deciding.

Everything looks like it would work, no bottlenecks. Though you won't have any ability to Xfire a pair of R9 290x's. So you need to keep that in mind. If you do want that option, you need something like an 850w PSU. If you can find a better case than the 450D then you should. Is the 230T available? The 840 Evo has problems with it, older files get much slower due to the method in which the controller operates. Can you get access to the Crucial MX100/BX100/M550? Or perhaps the OCZ Arc 100?

I'd also mention that 16GB of RAM may be helpful if you're doing app development. Debugging things, at least for me, means a lot of windows and tabs.

In Vietnam, the GTX 970 is actually cheaper than the R9 290 and 290x, so it's alot more logical choice here

As for Xeon vs i5... I dislike the fact that Xeon is locked and dont have integrate GPU, so even when it do have multi threading, I still prefer i5 most of the time.

For app development... I'm an Android Developer too, and 8GB have never been filled with me running both Android Studio and other tools for messing around with server and API, so...

Wow, no way. That's surely not true. Does this mean the AMD cards are massively expensive? Are nvidia cards particularly cheap? Or are they both taxed to shit and nvidia cards are just taxed less?

I guess I'm not alone  :P

I have done lots of research ab i5 and xeon and i pick xeon bcus I don't need to oc and xeon have 8 logic core, better for multi-task.

Further more, gtx  970 is really expensive ~460$ for msi, so I prefer the 290x (320$) for that reason :D

More like... you remember when the R9 290 and 290x is still ~400-500 USD? When they drop the price to ~ 200+ like now, in Vietnam since they are still old card that been imported in since the time the price is high, the price is being kept like that without dropping. (at least that's the case in the few shop that I actually know, I havent been back to Vietnam for quite a while and I've never buy any hardware in Vietnam so...)

I would suggest 2x8GB RAM, because you will start at 16GB of RAM, and in the future can go up to 32GB of RAM. 32GB of RAM does not seem necessary right now, but trust me, it will be the new normal in a few years. If you choose to go with 2x4GB, then you can always add another 2x4GB kit, but will not be able to add anymore RAM after that, unless you get rid of all four 4GB sticks, and get 4 8GB sticks, although that to me is just a waste of money.

RIG: CPU: i5 6600k @4.8GHz 1.34v  CPU Cooler: H100i  Motherboard: Asus Z170-AR  RAM: Corsair Vengence LPX 2400 (2x8GB)

HDD: Seagate Baracuda 2TB  SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB/PNY 240GB  GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970  PSU: EVGA G2 650W

Please use PcPartPicker, and paste the "BB" code when posting your build!
