Cherry MX Blues for Gaming?

Tim Drake

I am just hunting for some deals and MX Blues seem extremely satisfying to type on but everyone says not to get them for gaming, is this advice or like a rule? :P

How bad will it be if I get one for gaming?

You can game on any switch. Ignore the people who say any switch but Reds are for gaming.

Reds may have been made with gaming in mind, but you won't have any advantage over anyone with any type of switch.

I know this but will they be annoying or something, there has to be a reason people recommend against it.

It doesn't really matter, I found that my gaming experience was barely changed if at all when I switched from Reds to Blues. Except that Blues are exceptionally loud, although I wear headphones so I don't care.

I love my Blues for gaming and typing.

But if you/roommates/family get easily annoyed by all the clicking, get browns.

I love mine for gaming, they are perfect if you like the bump, click, and hard feel(but if you really like hard then greens would be the way to go). People say that they aren't for gaming because "reds/blacks are for gaming and blues/browns are for typing", but that statement couldn't be any more false. Cherry MX switches aren't purpose built(other than the locking greys), so just use what like :).

Some people don't like the actuation bump feeling, other people want something that's quieter. Noise is going to be an issue with any mechanical keyboard though, and blues just feel much nicer than reds imo. That's all it comes down to, personal preference.

Pity my country is so shitty I don't have a store where I could try them, well besides Reds from a K65 if I asked really nicely and the arrow keys on the BlackWidow

Do you not have a Maplin near you? They normally have a range of different mechanical keyboard in store. Weirdly they've become the only store I know of that actually sells gaming pc stuff.

I like Blues and Browns better for gaming. But use reds because of a personal preference, and are silent if you don't bottom out.

Yup but I would have to ask them extremely nicely.

Well, sadly Ireland doesn't have Best Buy so...

Anyways.

Blues are fairly light and they're quite clicky. If you like the click and the tactile bump then go for them. Obviously you'll actuate a key faster with Reds, but Blues are still quite good. Keep in mind though that no switch is "meant" for gaming. It's all personal preference. I do prefer to game on Reds as well as type on Greens but this should mean nothing to you.
