R9 280x VS GTX 960

I am looking for a GPU $200 or under. I mostly play Payday 2, World of Tanks, Titanfall, and Planetside 2.

280x beats the 960. Though I would save my pennies for the gtx 970 or wait for the 3XX gpu's from AMD

The time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time.

280X is better

amd will be better bang for the buck most of the time, nvidia will cost more but run cooler/quieter. i'd probably hold out if ur not too bad off until they announce 3xx series at amd.

The 280X beats the 960 in a majority of games.

The 960 is a significantly better TDP.

Really, that's all that's needed to know.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

That's an R9 280 not a 280x

Whoops, my bad. I guess there isnt a 280x for $200, unless its used. i don't mind spending a few more bucks for a 280x.

GTX 960 sits right in the middle between R9 280 and R9 280X. Both performance wise, and price-wise. So, you are getting exactly what you paid for in any case. That said, I am yet to see R9 280X below 200$.

Out of the games you mentioned - World of Tanks and Planetside 2 are highly CPU dependant, Titanfall can be run on a toaster, and Payday 2 is not that demanding. Still, I would recommend getting R9 280X - 3GB and more performance makes it worthy. Do consider the size and power you have availible in your rig - R9 280X is rebranded HD 7970 which was top of the line offering way back when. Designed for high-end rigs, with roomy expensive case, good airflow, quality PSU. It will be a very bad idea to stick it as an "upgrade" into a Dell pre-built tower for example. While GTX 960 will work just fine there - because 960 was designed as a hassle-free upgrade for the folk with budget PCs.

Well I have an FX-6300 CPU. Will a 500w PSU do fine?

If its a really good 500w, with at least 450w rated 12v line.

Looks reasonable. I wouldn't overclock with it, but at stock, you should be fine.
