pc to router ethernet.

dguz25

Brand new build, trying to get online for the first time but I'm having issues, I connected an Ethernet directly from the pc to the router and it didn't detect it. I heard it's because I need to use a crossover cable but if I. Any help is appreciated.

Cross over cables are for connecting a PC to another PC without a network in place not router to PC that won't work. As da_shack said it sounds like you are missing you NIC divers, you'l need to download them from your mobo manufacturer on another device and transfer them onto the new PC and install them before you can access the internet.

Since we're on the subject of drivers, what other drivers should I download? All I've done is install the os and activate it.

The main ones I would do is the NIC, Sound, USB 3.0 and any other 3rd party controllers, chipset, wireless LAN or bluetooth if your mobo has it and any pieces of software you will find useful usually. If you have an Asus board for example things like AI suite and Fanxpert should be installed.

We don't usually recommend that people use the disk.. The disk is a last resort, if you don't have another way to get drivers to your PC then use the disk.
