Nvidia to Release Second GM200-Based GeForce Card

jmart604

Same GPU that powers Titan X will be the focus of a new gaming-oriented card, possibly called the GTX 980 Ti or GTX 990Each card in Nvidia's GeForce GTX Titan line has been the king of the single-GPU hill at their release, and the recently-launched Titan X is no different. But if you want top-tier gaming performance and aren't a developer that needs the most pure compute power possible or don't have a massive multi-screen setup that can make use of the Titan X's 12 GB of VRAM, Nvidia's newest offering may spark your interest.

Nvidia is preparing to release a more gaming-oriented GM200-based card, with a still-generous 6 GB of VRAM, at a lower price. The GM200 is the same GPU at the heart of the Titan X. It is unclear what the card will be named, but speculation indicates that it may be branded the GTX 980 Ti or GTX 990.

Similarly to how the GTX 780 Ti compared to the Titan and Titan Black, this new yet-to-be-named card should offer gamers a Titan X-like level of performance while being lighter on the wallet.

NVIDIA is preparing its second GeForce graphics card based on its 28 nm GM200 silicon, which powers the $1,000 GTX TITAN-X. There are several rumors surrounding what NVIDIA could name the card. Some sources suggest NVIDIA could name it the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, while others point at names such as the GTX 990 (to set it sufficiently apart from the smaller GM204-based GTX 980).

The SweClockers report that sides with GTX 980 Ti for the name, mentions that the card could feature the chip's full complement of 3,072 CUDA cores, but feature 6 GB of memory, compared to 12 GB on the GTX TITAN-X. The memory bus width will stay at 384-bit.

I've been hearing nothing but Nvidia lately.

I miss the AMD leaks :(

*SOBS*

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

Repost of a repost of a repost. This has done the rumor mill a few times now mate.

That being said. Big ass Wut to Nvidia, why not release 6 and 12 gb variants of a card with the same name like what's done with the rest of the consumer side of the cards? They are going to essentially be the same thing and the two name thing is just confusing.

@smackclerk A 6GB version of the Titan X is not viable, because the GTX 780 Ti's Maxwell equivalent is meant to push past the Titan Black in gaming. It's the custom PCBs and coolers that give the GTX 780 Ti a significant edge. All "Titan" branded cards (Titan, Titan Black, Titan X) are not allowed to be sold with anything other than NVTTM cooler and Nvidia's reference PCB. So a 6GB Titan X would be useless compared to a GTX 980 Ti or 990 or whatever as it would be hobbled by NVTTM.

EVGA sells a Titan/Titan Black ACX cooler separately, but to the best of my knowledge it has not really taken off. Time will tell if it finds newfound popularity with the Titan X, with which it might be compatible because Nvidia's reference PCB for reference GTX 770 / GTX 780 / GTX 780 Ti / Titan / Titan Black / GTX 980 is more or less the same, give or take one or two chokes and MOSFETs. That is, if the screw hole distances are the same from GK110 to GM200.

This is sweet; however, I think I'll wait for Pascal next year. My 780 HOF edition is still doing well enough. I'll see though when I get a new QHD or UHD g-sync monitor.
