HTPC build with the 970?

Corruption

I want this to be able to handle 4k that's why I got the 970 as it has HDMI 2.0 (4k 60hz compatible) budget is under 1k. And the uses will be blue ray (I already have a blue ray optical drive in my main rig so the build shouldn't have one), Netflix, Music, etc.

You need a really nice haswell CPU or better. They are updated to have the .H265 decoder

Also, you only need a GPU that has displayport 1.2. So that means you can cheap out and go with a R7 260x.

Sound: Custom one pros, Audioengine A5+ with S8 sub.

Check out Betsy in my description. It is a little HTPC/ LAN computer which I made. Hopefully if I can get some money together I will be getting a 4K screen soon but it handles 1440p, 1080p and a 768p screens seamlessly (All working together...

Oh. As long as you're not gaming, get the cheapest card with HDMI 2.0. That means for nVidia the GTX 960. I don't know about AMD though.

If you're not gonna game, the GTX 960(GM206) is a better solution because of HEVC support.

Please tell me you're not spending ~£250 on a 970 just to output 4K video that any modern iGPU is just as capable of.

If you do this sensibly, your biggest cost will be the aesthetically pleasing Silverstone or Lian Li case to put it in.

All onboard igpus I know of only have HDMI 1.4 or 4k 30 fps. Need HDMI 2.0 for 60 fps.

And the cheapest GPU available that does have display port or HDMI 2.0 is the £250 GTX 970?

No, OP had another thread asking this question and I already answered with the 960. There is also probably a couple of Displayport to HDMI 2.0 adapters out there but haven't found any yet myself. Most TVs don't have displayport which is why they are looking for HDMI.

I would suggest searching for DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 adapters. Buying a £150 gaming GPU for the sake of Netflix seems absurd.

Or even use an interface like XBMC instead of a mouse so that you don't even notice that you're not getting 60 fps in the menus.

But what if he needs to do something like steam in house streaming.. Its better to have the 970 for full 4k60fps capabilities

No. I would never buy a £275 GPU just to stream from another PC.

Kind of. He said he wants to watch blu rays and listen to music, as well as stream games. None of that really needs more than probably an AMD APU, actually, nothing more than an A4. Maybe low end Intel for noise, it could go either way.
