200/20 cable and 50/20 only wifi

HatallaS

Hey guys,

I just moved to my new place in Taiwan.

Got me a good enough connection of 200/20, I am surprised by the limited 20 upload.

With the cable I get a steady 220meg download and 22ish download.

But on wifi, I am averaging 43 to 52 meg download, and my steady 20 upload. The PS4 only manages to get 22meg download.

Any thing I can get to increase its wifi.

I have a single box with antenna for wifi router/modem... I guess, the guy didn't speak English and everything is in Chinese....

I know the Asus routers are good. But I have no clue on how setup things like this.

Any tips?

Thanks

Certain bands of Wifi can max around 100 Megs (theoretical), therefore, you will be getting about half the speed.

Consider going to dual band wifi, but perhaps the PS4 only has a basic Wifi card. Consider investing in Powerline adapters that allow ethernet throughout the home through your power sockets - that's what I use and there's little latency over the network with great network speeds (relative to what I get at home).

Hope this helps:D

I second this. If you don't have ethernet already wired to the house powerline ethernet is the way to go.

I disagree with the previous two comments at least partially, Powerline won't give you the full 200Mbps. High end powerline kits can get you upto around 120Mbps which is decent and probably enough but isn't the full 200Mbps. Good WiFi is more expensive but you can get a good 300Mbps or so assuming you're not trying to go through lead plated walls or something. But Ethernet, while a pain to setup, works 100% and gives you full Gigabit speeds.

If you want the best performance for the least cost and hassle? Powerline is still probably the best option. If money isn't an issue and you just want the full 200Mbps without having to run cable? Wireless will do it, get an AC1200 (or better) media bridge and pair it with an AC1200 (or better) router. There's a risk that depending on how your house is setup and what particular devices you get either one or both of those will fall well short. The only way to guarantee 200Mbps would be to run Ethernet.

I think I will have to rewire the modem downstairs and run a able to it. Just means a very complicated way to run the other one to my pc upstairs.

Thanks guys.

I asked for the Ethernet, miss not an option in this building. ;,(

cheap option...but have to drill holes in your place...run the ethernet cables

semi cheap option...only works with good modern copper wiring tho...powerline adapters....500mbit ones are cheap now

expensive option...but no need to run cables..a high end router...probably a asus ac66u or a ac56u
